Any Sako owners out there?

I've got an opportunity to buy a Sako Forester in .243 and was hoping others may have owned/shot the rifle. First off, it will be the smallest caliber rifle I own, so would likely be used for varmits and just shooting. Might also be one of my kids first shooters in the years to come, though there is a .257 Roberts all ready set aside. To those that owned/shot, any issues or complaints? I'm not going to handload for it, so if anyone shoots factory rounds and can share some favorites, I'd appreciate that as well.

I've had a 19", .243 Forester since around 1970. Federal now duplicates my pet handload, the Sierra 85-grain HPBT bullet. It's as accurate as my handloads. If a group is over 5/8" to 3/4", it's me, not the gun. Really trying, I can hide three shots behind a dime.

Mine came with the Mannlicher stock. It was two-piece! It's not, now.

I've taken some 20 110-lb or less, field-dressed weight, whitetails with it, using the 85-grain bullet. Most folks favor a 100-grain bullet.

Great little critter. Seven pounds, "fully dressed". A "Scout Rifle before its time", if I'd mounted the scope in a forward position.

Thanks Art, appreciate the insight. If you've owned the gun for almost 30 years, it really sounds like a keeper. Thanks also for the load information, I'll definitely try out a box if I end up getting the gun.

I've owned a couple over the years. One was a heavy barrel 6mmPPC that I used during a brief benchrest phase; the other was a .270 Winchester. The .270 was a very accurate rifle that I only parted with after the constant begging and whining (and reasonable cash inducement) of a hunting partner. Great rifles and I'm in the market for a new one.

I've had a Sako AV in a .270 for about 12 years now, it is a very sweet and accurate rifle. I tend to do a bunch of gun swapping from time to time, but this is one that will never have another owner.

Thanks guys for the added votes of confidence in the rifle. So far it sounds like a no brainer decision. I better start working with the banker to get at my funds!
