I have seen the letters the Founding Fathers wrote regarding the need for the RKBA, but have never seen anything pertaining to the 1st Amendment. I was taught in school that the 1st was written so that people could not be persecuted for speaking or protesting against the government. The Church and State thing was written to protect the government from being run by the church, and vice-versa. I don't remember being taught anything about the press being able to invade people's private lives. I also don't remember being taught that public schools were part of the government. Can anybody point me to any references that might prove me wrong?
