Any report from CA DOJ briefing on SB15?

I heard from several dealers that there was a meeting this past Thursday to explain and answer questions regarding how SB15 (the law that will ban semi-automatic handguns without a manual safety, require lab testing of all handguns, etc.). Did anyone here attend or hear any update on what will be banned, how this will impact used gun sales, private party sales, etc?

I find this section very interesting. For example, my SL-8 has a thumbhole stock. If I remove the thumbhole it is now longer an assault weapon.

If I register my SB 23 assault weapon and later remove the characteristic(s) that make it an assault weapon, can I cancel the registration?

Yes. If the defining characteristics establishing a firearm as an SB 23 assault weapon are removed, it is no longer an assault weapon and the registration may be canceled. However, once the registration is canceled, you can never replace the characteristic(s) that make it an assault weapon, or you will be in possession of an illegal weapon.

THIS APPLIES ONLY TO FIREARMS DEFINED AS ASSAULT WEAPONS BY CHARACTERISTICS (Penal Code section 12276.1, SB 23). THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ORIGINAL ROBERTI-ROOS ASSAULT WEAPONS OR AK and AR-15 SERIES WEAPONS IN THAT REMOVAL OF THEIR CHARACTERISTICS DOES NOT NEGATE THE REQUIREMENT TO REGISTER THE ASSAULT WEAPON.

Better post this to make the DOJ's position clear:

If I remove the characteristic(s) that make my firearm an assault weapon, do I still have to register it?
NO, BUT THIS APPLIES ONLY TO FIREARMS DEFINED AS ASSAULT WEAPONS BY CHARACTERISTICS (Penal Code section 12276.1, SB 23). THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ORIGINAL ROBERTI-ROOS ASSAULT WEAPONS OR AK and AR-15 SERIES WEAPONS.

The removed characteristic(s) must never be replaced on the weapon, or it will again become an assault weapon and would be illegal unless registered on or before December 31, 2000. If you think you will ever replace any of the characteristics that make it an assault weapon, you should consider registering the weapon on or before December 31, 2000. If you do not register the weapon, and decide to replace the characteristic(s) that make your firearm an assault weapon, you will be in possession of an illegal weapon.

Again, removal of assault weapon characteristics only exempts non-Roberti-Roos and non-series assault weapons from the registration requirement. Roberti-Roos and series weapons must be registered regardless of characteristics.

Here I go again. I read the post. Go to the DOJ website. Muck around and end up trying to find a way not to register my H&K. I find a new section that is contrary to previous interpretations as expressed on TFL and go back to post. I already had forgotten the original post. I'm going to have my coffee before posting again. Sorry about the long gun, off topic nature of the posts above.
