Any other Sig 55x fans?

I have always been a fan the Sig 550 platform. However, the import restrictions have priced them out of my budget. Which is why I bought a Sig 556 Classic about a year ago. The look is very similar and with the exception of having an "a lower" that takes AR-mags, it is extremely close to a Sig 551. The model I purchased was sold with both the rebadged I-tac red dot and diopter rear sight. I have not used the red dot because the diopter works well is more true to the original design.

I have had absolutely no problems from the gun. (The early versions of the 556 seemed to have some issues but now they all seem to be resolved.) The only things I would change would be have the finish be grey in color and have an ambi-mag release. (I just use my thumb like most lefthanded shooter do on a standard AR.) Otherwise, I have no "complaints" about the rifle.

I was just wondering if there were any other fans of the Sig 55x platform?

FWIW they released the 551-a1 recently. It is even closer to the original 551 platform. IMHO they should have just done this years ago. (However, I am just going to keep my 556 Classic because it has served without any trouble and AR mags are inexpensive.)

The early runs were plagued by issues mostly in regards to the barrels and receiver rail. Added to the issues was the high price and then Sig dropping the price pretty much in half within 12 months have left collectors weary of the platform.

I had a classic swat. Was a nice platform. The rail system was iffy but fixed with the troy system. Venting of gas in the operator's face isnt the greatest either during heavy use.

The newest version looks pretty sweet. I would guess it will be around $1000 by this time next year as Sig continues the search for a winner.

I'm a big fan.

I have one of the early, AR stock, versions.

I had one problem with the rubber dust lips tearing and SIG fixed it, no problem.

The new 551a1 looks very nice, but I don't look forward to the cost of magazines.

That's why I am sticking with my Classic. I do wish the 551-a1 was out back when I bought mine BUT no big deal. Everything I've read says it's basically a Classic with non-adj. folding stock, grey finish and uses the expensive magazines.

The jury is still out on the Sig Sauer 556R. I sent it away to Sig Sauer New Hampshire for warranty work on a failure to fire/ stuck cartridge issue. I am still waiting 4 weeks later while the factory waits on parts. I only used the rifle twice and it seized up both times after 10-15 rounds only. I will report back if Sig Sauer honors its warranty and returns a functioning weapon. As of now, my confidence is marginal.

I really like them, admire them, and would love to have one or more.

Probably won't ever pay for one with my own money, but I'd love to have one you know?
