Hi there im going to be in Orlando FL with my wife and youngest son for a week (March 17th to 22) im looking to fined out if there any gun store or shows i can check out when im there even if there a IDPA Match or somthing like that i can watch for the day . The best would be if i could get out to a range and shoot are there any ranges that will rent ??

You're in luck. The central Florida Gun and Knife show runs that weekend (Centrla Florida Fairgrounds, Highway 50). A very good local gun shop in the area is Shoot Straight, Apopka (Highway 441).

The gun show is okay, admission is about $9. You might find a deal, but it's more likely that you'll just enjoy the atmosphere. Shoot Straight has a 16 lane, indoor range, is clean and has a professional staff.

Actually, some of us do live here. We came as vacationers, but never left!

I second Shoot Straight. Only deals you will ever find is if it's on sale, and then you'll get what most other shops charge normally. I call them the home of MSRP+++ pricing.

But they have a huge selection, and a very nice range, and it's a really nice store. You can browse for hours and drool over a lot of nice guns.

Avoid Shoot Straight. If you go over to the Florida Shooters Network forum you'll find the local opinions of them. People tolerate them only because they are available. They don't use Shoot Straight becuase they like the people there. Unfortunately, the @*4&*> who owns Shoot Straight bought out Suncoast Gunshows a couple of years ago and Suncoast controls almost all the gunshows in central FL. Therefore, Shoot Straight controls the gunshows - not a good thing.

Well, like I said, I don't BUY anything at Shoot Straight, but I do enjoy browsing there. Hundreds of guns, nicely displayed. I shoot at the Tampa location only because it's a mile from my office and I can shoot on my lunch hour.

- Shoot Straight does occupy about one third of the booths at the Orlando gun show at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. I don't find many deals there, but it is not because of Shoot Straight.

- Shoot Straight does try to sell most guns at retail or above. It's true that their best price is only close to a good deal, but mostly close to actual MSRP. They do have one or two sales a year and prices on select items are good to great. One year I bought a Ruger 22/45 .22 pistol for $199 (NIB).

- The owner of Shoot Straight is a capitalist. Kalid may be the biggest gun dealer in the USA (this may be an an unknowing exaggeration)? I'm told by his employees that he sometimes sells over 500 guns on an average weekend.

- The staff at Shoot Straight, especially the veterans are good people and the manager (Larry) is a terrific guy.

- As confirmed from the above posts, the shop is very clean, well lit and large with 16 shooting lanes for pistol.

- Their staff gives good advice, especially to novice shooters. Sometimes advice is worth more than a few bucks. I am a happy customer.

I have bought quite a few guns from Shoot Straight. I do wait till the gun show though. I am very happy with their prices at the show. I found if you see something at a lower price tell them and they will match or beat it. I try to catch Kalid's attention and he gives me what I feel is a good price.
