I have an old original rolling block in 50-70 and was wondering if anyone has any good loads as to reloading for this caliber. I have plenty of BP but was wondering on any smokeless powder loads that are down to the BP standards? I appreciate any info you can give. I have brass, and even the bullet mold for it. It is a Springfield marked remington rolling block. Also any ideas as to where to buy a repro sling that is period correct and a cleaning rod for it as well?

Like I said, any ifo/ideas/help is appreciated.

I always used to use from 40 to 46 grains of 3031 in the remingtons. last restort use the same loads as for a 45-70 in the remingtons.

Loads

I have a old sharps in 50-70 that I would like to shoot with smokeless powder. Do you loads you would be willing to pass on?

I recommend studying up on black powder loading - compressed powder charge and proper lube - to not rough up those old guns. A Rolling Block has a long reputation for strength but that is by black powder standards. I have seen pictures of rollers demolished by bad loads and bad gunsmithing, and they were very dangerous looking.

Also, that Springfield is an early gun and worth a good deal of money if not cut down or beat up.

Sometimes I wonder....

When I was a kid, a friend of mine had an old 45-70. He shot .410 shotgun shells with it.

Sometimes I wonder how I ever made it past the age of 14.....

Then at twenty I joined the Navy and I realized I had died and gone to heaven.
