Any Florida CWP Holders ?

Florida concealed weapon permit holders, I have some questions.

Recently received my permit.

1) In what position do you carry, and why ?

2) What weapon, and why ?

3) What holster, and why ?

I've been studying this and just when I think I've made a decision, I find
some reason to change it.

I've been looking at maybe back pocket wallet type carry because
99% of the time my shirt is tucked in, and as you know, it rarely gets
cold enough for a jacket.
And I tend to be warm most of the time anyways.

When you say tucked in, for work? Pocket guns are usually carried in the front pocket with a special holster. Unfortunately they're so thin and small, makes them difficult to shoot at the range.

Yes for work, but I usually wear the shirt tucked in all the time.

I carry a Charter Bulldog because I trust revolvers more than semi-autos and I like having 5 rounds of .44 special on tap. It's a bit too big for my pockets, so it rides IWB at about 4 o'clock, and a tuckable holster hides it from all but the most astute observer when I'm getting dolled up.

Seems like your wardrobe would be better suited for a pocket gun. A Charter Undercover, S&W 442/642, Ruger LCP, LCR, just about any .380, etc. are all good options for that. The concealed carry market is exploding and there's a virtually endless number of options.

When I'm in Florida I'm normally wearing light clothes so I carry an LCP with crimson trace on it in a Desantis front pocket holster. Great combo and more then enough gun with good ammo

Pocket carry a revolver as I wear cargo shorts 51 out of 52 weeks a year, and in my front pocket, the shorts stay up; with the basic Columbia fishing shirts that are solid colors, it hides it the best

1) In what position do you carry, and why ?

When in a holster, on the belt at 3:30 position
When in a pocket, in the front pocket in a holster.

2) What weapon, and why ?

On the belt a 1911 (government model)
In the pocket a Glock 36

3) What holster, and why ?

Belt-leather in pulls in nice and tight for concealment
Pocket-a pocket holster to cover the trigger so nuttin gets jammed in the trigger guard

When wearing shorts with deep front pockets, I pocket carry in a Desantis Nemisis pocket holster. When wearing pants without deep pockets, I resort to a Smart Carry.

I'm in Miami and I usually pocket carry a Kahr PM9 with the normal mag in a Desantis Nemesis. The extended mag sticks out too much. I just bought a Desantis Sof-Tuck Holster but I have yet to try it out. While it has the reverse clip (clips over the waist band and under the belt), it still adds a few inches to my waist line. I would have to go and buy a bunch of new pants to use it.

For the most part, the pocket holster works well. You have to wear pants with big pockets so flat fronts pants are out. Jeans are also out of the question.

Occasionally, I tuck my gun i my waistband at 3 o'clock without the holster. I know people are going to tell me that I am going to end up shooting myself. I appreciate the concern, but I've been doing it for 15 years. I am always very cautious when I do it and the gun only carried that way in the 3 o'clock position. I then pull my shirt over the gun to conceal it.

Whatever gun you go with, make sure it is HIGHLY RUST RESISTANT!!! The humidity down here will rust a gun in a hurry. (Sweating all over the gun doesn't help either.)

Good luck and welcome to the cwp club!

I have lived in Florida for over 50 years, and have concealed a firearm daily for 20 or so. I currently carry a Glock 26 day in and day out. I mostly carry IWB with either a light sport coat or a tail-out shirt going to and from the office. I am fortunate that my profession provides the perfect cover garment in the form of a lab coat.

Tail-out shirts do not necessarily mean Hawaiian prints, although they are well accepted in my area. Lots of casual shirts can be found with nice prints (I shop at Bealls a lot), and Columbia fishing shirts or, for that matter, any shirt you like can be modified for tail-out wear by squaring off the tail and running a small seam along the bottom.

If you find the right fabric in a sport coat, they can be quite comfortable to wear even in the summer. If you have one in a shade of blue and another in a tan or brown you can match one of them with almost anything and you will look sharp for evenings out, business meetings, etc.

I use a pocket holster only around the house or for quick runs to the grocery store when I am wearing cargo shorts. Contrary to the howls that will be generated by my words, a fanny pack holster doesn't get a second look by anyone who would care when worn with shorts or jeans, at least in my part of the state. I use one occasionally, but my IWB holster is the one that gets daily wear, with a cover garment chosen to fit the occasion.

I'm not in FL, but have just recently started carrying IWB at my business while I wait for my CWP to be processed. I am currently using a Galco IWB tuckable holster with a LCP. I wear it with both jeans and shorts and a polo tucked in. No prob concealing.

I carry a Ruger LC9 in a Desantis pocket holster. I wear slacks and a tucked in shirt. I can carry it in my front pocket and it pretty much looks like a wallet, if anything. However, lately I've been thinking about the Diamondback DB9 - a little bit smaller 9mm than the LC9, which means I might carry it more often.

Climate ?

I'm not quite sure how or why only W/concealed weapon license holders in the "Sunshine State" could answer these topic ?s but for more details, I'd see

Well I suppose California could too if they are one of the lucky ones there to get a concealed weapons permit.

Its the climate clyde, we dont often wear jackets or heavy clothes here.
Typically dress is light most of the year.
And if you are required to wear your shirt tucked in and dont wear a suit.....

Feel free to chime in though, thanks for the help.
I'm new to this CWP stuff.

;)

I have been told that folks CC the smaller polymer 380's in the back pocket have warped/bent the frame because of the heat specially when seated for long periods. I have not seen it with me own eyes, so is it myth or truth

My everyday wear is jeans and a t shirt. Sometimes with a light jacket in the "winter" time. I carry my new-to-me S&W Model 36. It's small and easy to conceal. It rides on the belt at 230 in a leather holster. Nothing fancy. If I'm going to be sitting/riding a lot I use an IWB in a cross draw position at 1030/11.

When I had a P3AT I had a nifty holster that looked like a bifold wallet. The top of the slide rode at the edge so the casings could eject and there was a hole in it so you could pull the trigger. That would be handy if you were mugged. "Here's my wallet..." BANG!! It worked nicely in the back pocket. A local guy made it, picked it up at a gun show. But I'm sure there's something out there like it. And my butt never got hot enough to bend or warp anything.
