Any feedback on this 9mm ammo?

Hi there!:

I'm just willing to have your inputs on this ammo: Swiss P SeCa 9mm. Weird as it sounds, I have my doubts that this is sold in the U.S.. I've been googleing a bit and found no links that made me think the opposite.

Although in Spanish, here goes a link where you can see the Swiss P SeCa:

http://www.syarmero.com/mat_pol_mun.htm

It is labelled as "expansive", although not hollow point, which is forbidden for civilians (stupidity rules) in my country. This ammo is quite interesting since -apparently- it should behave as an expansive round when hitting flesh, and perform like -or similar to- a FMJ when penetration is needed. I'm interested in it for my personal protection use, although a number of LEAs are becoming interested and started using it.

No desparo esta, pero no se ve como esta expande tanto como la punta hueca. Se ve mejor que no-expansion, sin embargo. (Mi espanol es mal, pero estudio.)

Exactly, it doesn't expand as much as a typical expanding JHP round. Problem is, in Spain, hollow points are illegal for civilians, and even for LEOs that aren't expressly authorized to use them (my case). Tactical teams and the like do use them.

This SeCa ammo, however, is not considered hollow point, but it indeed is an expanding round that has, as well, good penetration qualities.

Paciencia... ¡y siempre un diccionario a mano!.

(Your Spanish is in the right way. Check what's underlined and if don't figure out what might be wrong, MP me and I'll try my best to make it clear for you. For you to know, I'm 37 and I've been studying and speaking English since I was 9, and still make mistakes. Patience... and always a dictionary at hand!).

I don't speak Spanish so I'm going by the pictures alone. I appears that the nose of the bullet, upon impact, is pushe down into the jacket thereby causing expansion. If this is how that particular bullet works, then it would seem very similar to the design of Cor-Bon/Glaser Pow R' Ball which is available here in the states.

From what I know about the Cor-Bon loading, it seems to expand very reliably and consitently, but it often does not penetrate as deeply in fluid media (ballistic gel, soft tissue) as other loadings because it uses light-for-caliber bulelts at high-for-caliber velocities. The 9mm loading, for example, is advertised as a 100gr bullet at 1475fps.

If the ammo from the link were available to me (I've never heard of it before now), I would probably be hesitant to use it over the more proven JHP loadings I prefer (Winchester Ranger T-Series or Speer Gold Dots are my preference in 9mm). As those loadings are illegal in Spain, however, I would suggest that you investigate the penetration of these loadings in ballistic gelatin. If they can consistently manage to penetrate 12 inches (approximately 30.5cm) or more, then I don't see how they could be any worse than FMJ.

Webley, you're quite right. This particular cartridge is a 124gr projectile, and on a review I read at a Spanish publication (armas.es) it did penetrate less than other JHP they tested against it. It did penetrate sufficiently, however. Can't remember the exact figures, but I'll look for them and post them here.

Thanks for your input ;)

Remember that guy in Philadelphia, made the philli cheese sands? He had a sign saying "this is America, so please order in English"

He just died yesterday.

"I don't shoot this particular one, but it looks like it doesn't expand as much as a hollow point. It looks better than a non-expansive, though. My Spanish is bad, but I'm studying.". HTH.

Although you're right, perhaps is not to be taken that seriously . I tried to answer his post in a way that could help others guess what Gator had said.

Sorry to hear of the fellow's demise, and even more sorry if he was a friend of yours.

But FWIW, I am a native of the US and a native speaker of English. I am trying to learn some Spanish in my middle age, for my own edification and personal growth, and Nordeste, like every other native speaker of Spanish that I have encountered, was very gracious and good-humoured in helping me via PM.
