Any "didn't quite make silk purse" stories? v2.0

I am reopening this thread without misleading, tangential introductions to keep stuff on topic.

Basically in the original thread I had started pondering what pointless improvements/upgrades people might do to their guns. I mean improvements or upgrades that are not proportionate the gun they are being applied to.

I'd like to hear about examples you have witnessed:
A magna-ported Rohm?
An engraved Jennings?

Come on! Spill your beans
Which travesties have you witness, be they pointless accoutrements or wasted upgrades. And who was the guilty customiser?

PS respondents on the previous version feel free to add you gun examples once more! (the Hi Point vid was entertaining!! Wish I could shoot that fast and hit something)

I was given a Raven .25 without a magazine. In a fit of stupid I bought a magazine for it knowing full well I'd never shoot the danged thing.

Maybe not quite what you're looking for as I don't consider the gun involved as poor quality but the mods done to it did sort of trigger a gag reflex to a 1911 purist. I have an acquaintance who was fairly new to guns and the fellow went out and found a pretty decent Norinco 1911 for sale in a local pawn shop. The gun was pretty much straight factory stock blued frame the only exception was the addition of a set of rubber pachmeyer wraparound grips. Nothing fancy just a decent basic 1911. When I next saw the pistol the owner had taken the gun apart and sent the slide, grip safety, trigger and, hammer to a friend who worked at a company that did chrome plating mostly for auto bumpers and had these parts plated with a mirror polish chome finish. He also added a pair of fake pearl grip slabs. In my view he ruined a pretty decent pistol in an attempt to add tasteless bling.

I know someone who polished a Traditions Trapper (kit) to a high gloss white finish. He posted images and sold it for $750.

I'm responsible for this one. I bought an LE trade in Gen2 G19. It had a lot of holster wear but not much internal wear. I decided (don't know what I was thinking) I'd polish the slide and if I didn't like it I'd have it cerakoted later.

I worked a Phoenix gun show where the seller next to us had only 1911's that were shiney chrome, rounded edges, and pearl like grip panels. I don't think he sold any. Costa Mesa show saw guy, patron, browsing with his gold plated AK.

Whelp......
There's this guy I know with an Ishapore 2A1 in 7.62 that the importer had cut down to 'jungle carbine' specs.

He put on an aftermarket stock and had it stripped and painted in a OD/sand/brown sponge-bob camo pattern. Then he had the barrel cut down to a ridiculous amount and had a FAL flash hider permawelded on to make it legal again. Oh and it has a scout scope to go with all that.

It's not quite a silk purse... but it Does seem to work and gets attention. .... especially if you are unfortunate enough to be sitting to the side when it discharges on the range.

In a similar vein, I find it a bit comical when people do that sort of thing to 10/22s to make them look all manly and warlike. I admit, I did shoot one once, and it was a joy to use... but I think that was more the Volquartsen trigger than the camo paint job.
