Diamondbacks
The most valuable Diamondbacks are those made in .22 magnum. Very limited manufacture. ( I have never seen one in over twenty years of collecting) Also very rare are Diamondbacks with 2.5 inch barrels. In 1979 Colt made approx. 2,200 Diamodbacks with 6 inch barrels and nickle finish. However, be aware of fakes. Alot of people have had blue guns refinished in nickle so a factory letter would be a must to confirm if nickle was original finish. I feel most people prefer the 6 inch versions and usually they command a little bit more all other things being equal. But if its a choice of a nice 6 inch gun with no box or paperwork and a 4 inch mint with everything go with the 4 inch. I do recall in the mid seventies a factory recall of certain Diamondbacks, I belive it was for problems with mainspring strength. I am sorry I don't have the serial number range that was affected.
