Anti-gun politicians: What's in it for them?

After reading some numbers about lobbying expenditures 1997-98, I discovered that the gun grabbers cannot be in it for the money, because it is just not there, the anti-gun
contributions to the gun-grabbing politicians was only $380,000.

While the lobby expenditures for the pro-gunners was $8,200,000 for the same two years.

We know that the money is in the fight for gun rights, and we know that these politicians are too smart not to know that what are they are doing is not Consituitional, so why pursue a political career as a gun-grabber? You can see the figures for yourself at:

The money thing assumes they are in it for instant gratification. They are in it for power for them and those that follow. They have enough people who will vote for them and are backed by the media. They don't need as much money.

It took FDR and his followers 70 years to get to this stage in socialized medicine. They can wait 70 more to get our guns.

The business end.

There is no politican who has ever squandered tax money who does not, in his secret heart of hearts, realize that he/she is a miserable SOB excuse for a human being that thoroughly DESERVES shooting, if his/her constituents are merciful and not inclined toward tar&feathers and riding out of town on a rail... :D
THAT'S why even the "pro-gun" pols are not to be trusted !
:D :D :D

The Bill of Rights, and the Golden Rule are enough for civilized behavior. The rest is window dressing. Shoot carefully, swifter...

Yes, it's power. Money follows later, if desired.

The anti-gun politicians figure that the more fear and hysteria they can pump into a person about guns, the more likely that person will be to vote for them and allow them to do whatever they try to get away with. This voter gives the policitians power, in exchange for their "protecting" him--through gun control laws--from the guns that are, he imagines, the cause of his fear. Because of the note of hysteria, he doesn't stop to think that the demagogues, not the guns, are the true source of his fear. IOW, politicans, not guns, are the real threat, but politicans are good at deception and diverting attention elsewhere.

It takes some mental discipline and a bit of work to see through demagogic politicians, and I'm sorry to say that a lot of Americans nowadays seem content to swallow what they're fed without stopping to taste it or to think about whether it's healthful. Even people who believe themselves educated and informed can be intellectually lazy, sloppy thinkers, who are easy dupes of a cleverly manipulative politico (like Clinton).

Also, since the elite media are anti-gun, the anti-gun politicians can count on favorable news coverage of their posturing. This gives them leverage in their political affairs, plus media adulation is an ego boost that makes small, mean minds feel big.

It is two things.

1. Power
2. They think they are smarter than the rest of us so they in turn think they know what is in our best interest. They view their position as that of a father or mother figure over the rest of us who they think are too dumb to know what is best for us and that the only smart thing we ever did was elect them to office.

Power. Total, all-encompassing power.

If you have power, you can get money and all the "Monicas" you want....

Dennis: All politicians gravitate towards the women. It is a characteristic of men who want power (maybe not Nixon - but he was a strange one).

My jaundiced view is that the majority of politicians will say what sells.

Then there are small groups of real committed to the issue folks and another group of nuts who should be committed. On both sides of all issues.

Our guns are also seen by the politicos as a threat to their thrones of power.
Why do you think the BATF was stressing the 50bmg Limosine threat? Its not cause high schoolers ride in limos on prom night.

There's multiple answers.

Especially at the local level, there's twits that actually believe their own BS.

But the MAIN factor I think is that gun control makes a nice, compact, clean "sound bite" that instantly makes the politicritter involved "sound caring".

Less common but far more dangerous are those then link gun control to a larger "big government agenda". Gore falls into this camp, bigtime.
