Another wolf pack in Lost Prairie

Shot by a friend of ours up behind the house yesterday. No dogs or Grandchildren outside unless accompanied by an armed adult till the whole damned den is wiped out.
We saw 5 of them running through the south pasture the day before, and two of them appeared to be large males.

Its a female, and weighed out at 142#.

Using what caliber and at what range did your friend shoot the female?
 
Archery

Montana has an archery season for wolves? I am not sure I would like to meet the stud that can fill that tag. If you can get 5 tags with basically the whole of winter for a season, that means to me there is a definite problem with the population.

Behind the house is way too close for comfort. We moved away from the area about 8 years ago, but I remember hearing a wolf pack howling from our back porch. That is an eerie, distrurbing sound. I am fortunate never to have had an encounter that close to home. Very scary. If a bull elk or even bison is no match for a wolf pack, what is my family going to do? I can't say I am against wolves being around, but hopefully with the new hunting and some management there will be less problems and close encounters like that. It sounds like there needs to be some numbers thinning, though.
 
We have coyotes down here taking down full grown healthy deer. I couldn't imagine wolves. That one will surely make a wonderful mount or skin! Congrats to your friend, that is something us southern boys can only dream of.
 
Squeaky wheel

I am sure you have already thought of it, but being a squeaky wheel sometimes gets you the grease. I knew a guy a few years ago who relocated problem bears, grizzly and black. He was always busy all over the whole state. I think if you and your neighbors got together, the game and fish or whatever they call it up there might have to do something about it. The season looks like it is coming to a close I guess.

On a side note, is that link to Swiss products your company? Those are some pretty cool accessories or whatever you call them. Pretty good machining quality it looked like to me.
 
Do you save anything from the kill? Hide? Meat(I have no clue if wolf tastes good)? I'd imagine wolf fur could get you a pretty penny.
