Another Sig Sauer Police Trade-In This Month

I brought this Sig P229 in .40 S&W home yesterday. A couple of weeks ago the new pistol was a Sig P226.

The newest one is of 2004-2005 vintage and came from the Opelika, Alabama Police Dept. It is in a little nicer condition than the P226 from the Pelham, ALabama Police Dept.

Seems like it is raining Sig Sauer police trade-ins in this part of the country. :)

Sig Trade Sunami?

See and read these Sig trades too. Could be many things, but remember it Always starts at the top!!

It could be with the P226 trade-ins pistols were getting on the older side since they were 1987 vintage. The P229's trade-in's are all .40 S&W and there have been two rumors going about. The first rumor is the FBI is going back to 9mm's and other LEO's are following the lead. Then there is a rumor that the .40 S&W ammunition is causing some unusual or abnormal wear on the slides and/or frames of pistols.

There simply are a lot of .40 police trade-ins lately.

Additionally, there are some heavy discounts going on .40 NIB firearms, CDNN was doing 200 off HK/SIG for their .40 compared to their 9mm counterparts a couple weeks back.

There are a number of PDs switching to 9mm. Its not really an internet rumor anymore when there have been major press releases about it:

FBI Switching back to 9mm

Here are confirmed PDs but there are more, not all make it to a news outlet.

Sioux Falls, S.D
Colorado Springs, Colo.
Chicago, Ill
LAPD
NYPD

Indeed! These would be great times if I cared anything about .40SW, which I don't.

But if you do, I've seen lots of great deals on .40SW police trade-ins lately, both online and in brick-and mortar stores. Glock 22s and 23s under $300 are not something I had not seen in quite a while, but I've seen a few in local gun stores in the past few weeks.

I have always felt the same way Fishbed77. Then the perfect storm presented itself.

I had purchased a lot of brass at an estate sale that I could use and along with it came a coffee can with over 700 pieces of .40 S&W brass. What more of an excuse does one need to buy another handgun?

Then along came a very good deal on a very nice looking P229 and it happened to be in .40 S&W.

I also found out all it takes is a Barsto barrel in 9mm along with a magazine and I would have a P229 in 9mm. There is also the fact a .357 Sig barrel will slide in and use the .40 magazine. I have not bought either of these. (not yet)

I was suddenly overwhelmed and bought the gun even it was a .40 S&W. :(

I think a nice used .40 S&W Sig P226 and P229 are 2 of the best gun values you can find these days. My own Sig P226 in .40 is my remaining pistol in a caliber I'm otherwise not that fond of. I have a Hogue rubber monogrip on it which really helps to control the snappy recoil of the .40S&W caliber.

My newer P226 is in 9mm but is not as nice a condition as the P229. It is in decent condition, but I may send the slide back to Sig for a re-blue. It only shows holster wear on the slide. Including shipping, it is just $115.00. I don't know whether they ever have sales for this particular service.
