Another shotgun slug question.

I am hitting the local range early next week to sight in my 30-06 and try some Federal and Winchester rifled slugs in my Rem 870. My question is what chokes would you all recommend to start out with. I have choke tubes in Mod, IC, and Skeet.

Is there a reason why a tighter or looser choke might work better?

STAY loose or risk blowing a barrel in your shotgun as a less than cylinder choke continuously shaves off more and more lead from each slug until one day the slug won't go out the end of the barrel. That day is a bad day... Modified is OK but no tighter. I would suggest that you go purchase a slug barrel for your gun.

use all three with different slug brands till you come up with the best combo, I got a winchester that shoots brenneke's best with a Mod barrel.

All of the chokes mentioned should work fine from a functioning aspect. Accuracy will depend on the individual round/barrel combination with no prediction possible.

If the SG has a vent rib, a good investment is a set of clamp-on sights.
