Another Rookie Question: "PN" Stamp on BP Guns

I see it on both Uberti and Pietta guns. What does it stand for? Thank you.

The PN is the Gardone black powder proof. The star and coat of arms is the provisional Gardone proof for all Italian guns.

In Italian it is prova nera, meaning proof black.

Beg to differ,

PN = Polvere Nera = Black Powder

PSF = Polvere Senza Fumo = Smokeless Powder (you will find this on modern Italian weapons)
