Another NY hero

Glad this wasn't a Kitty Genovese replay.

I was in my mid-teens in the 50s. I used to take the subway at 3 a.m. from 23rd St in Manhattan out to Sheepshead Bay to go deep sea fishing.

Never had a problem. Nothing but a few drunks sleeping it off. I never heard of anybody, at any station, including the Harlem stops, ever have problems.

Just thinking about it now reinforces the perception of how far this society has deteriorated.

Oatka, and to think they use the word "advanced" as a prefix to "society".

Talk about an oxymoron (sp?).

NRA? Good. Now join the GOA!

Oatka - hey - I used to fishing out of Sheepshead Bay also.

Small world! I lived in Brooklyn so the trip was shorter.

The city was a hell of a neat place to live then :(

In fact, I saw my first real firearms in the basement of Macy's where they had a section of surplus military rifles in the sporting goods section.

If you see a Macy's now - I don't think so!!

I used to live in the apartment building that overlooked the site were Kitty Genovese was killed in.(Kew Gardens)For those of you who do not know the story, and it was written up in many psychology text books, it was a situation where a young woman was heard crying out for help as she was raped, stabbed and finally killed for over an half hour. Many of the people in my building admitted to hearing her cries for help but they all said they were sure that their neighbors had called the police so they did not. Please note I did not live there at the time and KNOW I would have gotten directly involved just as I would have wanted someone to have helped me.The point is that people do not want to take responsibility and are fast to pass responsibility off to others. Think how many gun owners are not members of the NRA.
This is the same apartment building where my super was knifed and I was almost killed by the three crooks who were robbing my car and my neighbors car. The situation was that I could not retreat, was backed in a corner, and a male with a sharpened screw driver was coming at me. If I did not have my Colt Officer with me (and was not aware ) I would be dead. There were no police to protect me at that time and place. That year there were 3000 murders in NYC. It gets me mad that legally people are not allowed to protect themselves unless they carry a lot of money ( or have connections) as that is the only way to get a NYC Carry Permit.
