Police are appealing to a man believed to have shot three police officers in the Brisbane suburb of Chermside West to give himself up.
Police want to interview Nigel Dean Parodi, also known by the name Jessie James Ford, who is believed to be in the area still, and armed.
A gunman opened fire on three police officers, all stationed at Boondall, early this morning when they were called to investigate a neighbourhood dispute.
A female police officer was shot 12 times, but is expected to survive although she is still in a very serious condition.
Another police officer is also in a serious condition. The third is described as satisfactory.
Police have released the names of the officers injured in the shooting.
They are Constable Sharnelle Cole, 26, Constable Darryl Green, 27, and Sergeant Christopher Mulhall, 38.
Meanwhile, the police hunt for a gunman in Brisbane's north has moved to two schools.
Police are searching the grounds of Craigslea High School and Craigslea Primary School in suburban Chermside.
Heavily armed police have sealed off a large part of Chermside, searching for the man.
They are moving cautiously through suburban streets, and are concentrating on the schools and nearby reserve.
The man is believed to be armed with a pistol or rifle, and police are taking no chances.
They are wearing bullet-proof vests and are being accompanied by marksmen.
Residents are being warned to remain indoors.[/quote]

My guess is a .22 rimfire, and a semi-auto to boot.
But hang on -- isn't this what our new gun laws were specifically said to be going to prevent????
