Another lizard hunt.......

Me and the wife caught these two Tuesday. The "small" one is a little over 10', the "big" one is over 12'............pushing 700 pounds.

We were able to haul the "small" one, 300 pounds or so, into the boat as we caught it first. The "big" one we had to lash to the side and tow back to the ramp. Took over 2 hours. Got the kid you see in the picture and another guy to help us haul it in the boat at the ramp.

And no there is no Photoshop involved here. Look hard at the hands on the gator when he is on the lift. He is a stud.

The last picture you can see how much bigger the 12' is compared to the 10', big difference.

That's a whole lot of dinosaur meat.

What are the choice cuts on a gator? Is the good meat mostly on the tail or is the whole thing tasty?

It all tastes about the same. Only issue is how tough some parts can be. And you do need to remove the fat as it has a funky flavor.

Pounding the tough parts or using a cuber solves all the issues. The tail, loins, backstrap and some of the body meat is relatively tender. Neck meat, legs and some of what is around the ribs can be tough.

While the restaurants almost always advertise "gator tail" fact is it's often just "gator meat". It's all good, white and mild.................

Coarse chop the tuff nuggets in food processor and add liberally to your hush puppy dough. make gator fritters...
add some finely chopped hot peppers and onions.
NUMMY NUMMS!!!

Harpoon or large snatch hook on a thin rope is hurled over the gator or with 'poon, right into him. Then he is drawn near the boat where a bangstick loaded with a 12 gauge shell can be utilized to dispatch him. The tape on th mouth is 'cuz gators mouths may not stop snapping and doing damage for upwards of hours after death.

hogdogs is mostly correct.

We get close enough to snag them with a rod and them work them to the boat, or as the case may be we work the boat to them. Harpoon them and use a bangstick ( .357 ) to kill them. Then the work begins.........

*I don't do this...
For smallish gators an 8 inch rapala topwater minnow on a stout rod loaded with 30-50 pound is all you need for a 4-5 footer.

Yeh! We fish for the little guys when the bass aren't biting. They'll also go for a 10 or 12" Texas rigged worm.

Nice gators BTW!

You can also catch the big boys with shark rigs and chickens.
