...was out pawn-shopping again today and came across a Russian Makarov. It's the commercial model with the adjustable rear sight and is in pristine (for a Russian Mak) condition.

I feigned dis-interest and the guy threw in two 50 round boxes of CCI Blazer JHP ammo, plus a militray holster and two extra mags.

All for the outrageous price of $125 out the door.
Like I need another Makarov...

I bought it anyway. :D

So, how was your day?

I saw one of these Russian maks with adjustable sights last week. A couple were trying to sell it, along with six boxes of Norinco ammo, to the store. Before the dealer had looked at it or made an offer, I asked what they wanted for it. They said $160. It was in okay condition, but somewhat worn. I considered it, but I already have two Bulgarian Maks and don't really need another, so I didn't make an offer. Anyway, I overheard the dealer tell them he could probably sell it on consignment for them for around $160 or so, or that he'd buy it outright for $80. They sold it to him for that. When considering that the ammo is worth at least $30, that's about $50 for the Mak. Kind of wished I'd made them an offer. I was tempted to do so when the dealer made his offer, but I didn't want to bid against him in his own store.

I hate you all....

Why can't I ever find stuff like this? Our pawn shops never have anything but way overpriced used guns. Or maybe I'm just not visiting often enough.;)

logansdad,

Your pawn shops sound like my local gun shops. Overpriced is the key word there. :(

But, I just got my application packet from the ATF for my FFL, so they'll soon have some (admittedly small) competition. As a dentist/gun dealer once said: My goal is to sell at least one gun to every law abiding adult in America. :D

The pawn shop here only has overpriced crap. How ever once and a while the local gun shop gets in a deal, I found a used S&W model 29 with a six inch barrel for 225.00. I looked it over and it looked like it had never been fired, I mean it was pristeen. I ran to the sherrif's office to get a purchase premit, when I got back it was gone. man was I mad. They wouldn't even hold it 10 minutes for me, unless I put it on layaway. What I ended up doing was drive 50 miles and bought a .45, to make be feel better.;)

Cheapie,Cheapie!!! Wash your brain out with soap for even having those evil thoughts!!!!!!

Good buy though.;) Tell us how it shoots.:)

Haven't seen any Maks on local pawn shop shelves, but one local dealer had an 80% circle 10 Bulgie (one mag, no holster or other extras) for $260!! Another semi-local dealer has a very nice commercial Russian in .380ACP for $199 - may try to do some dealing on that one.

Got my unissued Bulgie (with two matching mags, holster, cleaning rod, and lanyard) on order for the princely sum of $135 plus S&H, transfer, BG check fees....

Also picked up a nice Russian commercial from a new Makarovnik acquaintance. Haven't shot it yet,:( but am chomping at the bit to do so.
