Another joins the fold

A few months back I took a guy from work out to the SG range to hunt some clays. I took a couple short-barreled 870's with IC chokes.
He had a good time and by the end of the day he had the great pleasure of breakin' a bird, shuckin' a shell and bustin' another bit of the falling shards.
Got 'im! :)

Last week he bought his first 870, his first firearm of any type actually.
A Wallyworld special. Express Magnum with a 28" VR barrel w/mod remchoke and a stupid PC lock.
We went out today and although I was shooting quite poorly, we had a great time. Afterwards I had a chance to show him the simple pleasure of disassembling an 870. He had previously pulled the barrel and cleaned it but was a little apprehensive about pulling the bolt and dropping the trigger group.
I forgot what a literal drag it is to shoot a new 870, at least an Express. That thing really needs a few thousand shells run through to slicken it up.
Anyhoo, it was a nice way to spend a late afternoon Fall day with a couple friends and a few 870's.
That's it.

pat on the back for your patience. Pat pat. Keep up the good work, someday it will be repaid.

And you didn't invite me???

It was really late in the day and I also did not want to make him feel too bad shooting in the presence of a Shotgun (Shogun?) master. :)

Actually, as he becomes more comfortable with his new 870, I will try to get him involved with some of the TFL shoots. I am sure that W&W will be the first one he attends.

Kudoes,Mike. 870s and shotgunning are infectious, and there's no vaccine...

As for smoothing up an Express....

After ensuring that it's empty and safe, sit in front of the TV and watch Jeopardy while working the action continously. When your arms tire, switch hands.

About the time the final credits roll, take the weapon apart.Clean/lube the inside of the receiver, and wipe off what you can of the TG.

Use a crockstick, hard Arkansas stone, etc, to polish the wear marks and LIGHTLY radius the sharp corners of the action bars. Lube well and reassemble, not forgetting the one drop of lube on each action bar where they enter the receiver.

WHile this will not make the action smooth as my TB or Frank, it'll be much better than before. Some work polishing will take care of the rest.

HTH....
