ANOTHER IMPORT BAN??

My December-January-February Federal Arms "Guns n Stuff" catalog has a little note in it from the company.

"A note to our customers:

As you may or may not know by the time this catalog goes to press, teh State Department "read Clinton Administration) has determined that many military type semi-auto rifles can no longer be imported, including the parts! We have a limited lot of many Semi-Auto part sets such as FAL, STG58, G3, and others, but not for long. If you have ever thought of adding one of these rifles to your collection, either by building one from the ground up or purchasing it complete now is the time.

Of course we still have plenty of the hard to get, unique, and proprietary items you have come to expect from F.A.C.

Make sure to check out ournew gunsmithing and hobby tool section on page 69 for ome great Close-Out deals.

Thank you."

I haven't heard of this. Should I rethink my decesion to buy a Romanian AK? Will I be able to get parts for it?? Or is this some marketing scam?

I'm not sure if it is a marketing scam or not. It could be that it is true and it is a marketing scam. ;)

I have seen the same thing in the Centerfire Systems catalog for the past few months. Been thinking hard about buying a few spare parts for my SLR.

Consider that the anti-gun movement has done MORE to promote the sales of firearms than any other force: they've created whole new categories that even gun nuts were hardly aware of, created whole new markets & products for manufacturers, and given us plenty of reason to eagerly buy from these newly-clarified categories. Import restrictions on FAL, G3, etc. just create another high-profile "get yours now before they're gone!" sales opportunity, and motivate people who otherwise wouldn't buy. The greatest irony of this whole pro-/anti-gun struggle is that when SCOTUS finally declares RKBA an individual right, there will be far more guns around than if the anti's had just kept their mouths shut.

It's true, was passed back in August, I believe. This was done under the authority of the ATF, with no congressional control. One more reason to get a good guy for Sec-Treasury. Maybe Ashcroft as AG can regin in these guys. I'm looking to buy parts and build a FAL, this is making it harder. Like every other time the Feds banned something, demand skyrocket, imports were up something like 10x in the period before the ban.

Gotta love the USSA.
