Another idiot spreading misinformation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I am in Cabela's yesterday picking up reloading dies for my new Remy 700 Sendero .300 Win Mag , and as I stop in the isle to start looking at the dies, I overhear a conversation between a father and son...

Son: So the SKS, is that like a fully automatic machine gun?
Father: Oh yeah.

Immediately my blood boils, and I interject...

"No, it is a semi-automatic rifle, meaning you pull the trigger once, it fires one round, pull it again, it fires one more round."

Father: Well, yeah, but you can make it fully automatic.

"Sure you could", I tell him, "If one, you knew what the hell you were doing, and two, you didn't mind spending the majority of your adult life in prison."

With that, I turned back around and went back to what I was doing. The pair silenced up and split out of there pretty quickly.

What pi$$ed me off even more is that they were picking out ammo as they were having this conversation. So they obviously do in fact own guns, yet know nothing of what they speak, and probably spew out this kind of talk to their wives and girlfriends, who pass it on to their friends...And sooner or later "Cabela's is selling machine guns, and THAT is why we need gun control..."

Stupidity torques me off too, but you could have used the incident as a situation to educate fellow gun owners, instead of ripping on them.

Remember, not all gun owners have a shooting range in their basement, life membership in the NRA, reloading equipment, and every issue of Guns n Ammo & Covert Commando ever published. ;)

Sounds as if.....

Sounds as if Dad was either a hunter or a shotgunner. At least in my corner of the world, each is appallingly ignorant of firearms law and an anti-gunner as relates to any firearm NOT used in their particular sport. :barf:

Your charge is obsene. Be aware that many hunters, especially those in my corner of the world, have been around guns all of their lives, load their ammo and even build their guns and are probaly more knowledgeable of guns and gun laws than many who only recently bought a toy and are now expert in all aspects.

My cousins are also from rural Alabama where they lived on about 100 acres and have been hunting all their lives.
They have or have had every gun imaginable at one time or another.
Every gun that can be used for hunting.

They don't know an SKS from an AK and do think that all Uzis and AKs are fully automatic.

They have an encyclopedic knowledge of just about all gun laws, as they pertain to hunting.
They still thought I was committing a crime, up until recently, when I carried concealed.
They don't have CCW permits or even know how to get them and have no desire to.

It is a common point of contention between hunters and CCW types that hunters are generally ignorant of guns not pertaining to hunting and that CCW types are generally ignorant of hunting regs and many do not even hunt.

But nothing prohibits a person from being a member of both clubs

Your opinion

"Your charge is obsene [sic]."

Get a dictionary and look up the word you are attempting to use. Then read the post immediately following yours.

I base my opinion on experience; the phone calls to my office when hunters/shotgunners just come to the blinding realization that what they belatedly call "that new law" - enacted in 1998 - seriously affects THEM.

The calls from the hunter who is oblivious to all around him until he emerges from mental hibernation for 2 weeks, only to find that his "lifetime" permit isn't and he can't even buy ammunition (which he calls "bullets").

The calls from the shotgunner in the same predicament with even LESS of an excuse, since there is no season for trap/skeet/sporting clays.

As I specifically limited my remarks to my corner of creation, I pass no comment on yours.

6, Perhaps it is you who needs to resort to Websters. :p I see his generalization of Hunters and shotgunners
obscene 1:disgusting to the senses : repulsive
and yours equally so.

The fact that Joabs gene pool is a couple of shovel fulls shy of a wheel barrow load does not mean that all, in even florida, suffer from the same fate.
Are the hunters and shot gunners that you know your family members, also?:D

Reading comprehension

Big Jack asks,

"Are the hunters and shot gunners that you know your family members, also?"

As those who actually read and comprehended my post are, unlike you, already aware, my comments were based upon calls to my office from hunters and shotgunners who chose to be wilfully ignorant of events affecting their chosen sport.

This is probably a far greater sample than whatever it is you rely upon.

Number 6, just for my .02 cents. I know plenty of hunters and shotgunners as you call them. YES, alot of them are completely ignorant of most gun laws, except those that pertain to hunting. That being said, they are some of the safest firearms users I have ever been around. I would not hesitate to go to the range with some good 'ol boy, that has been shooting fast moving targets since he was nine, even if he does call them bullets.

And on the other hand, most CCW types seem not to be hunters, (in my experience) and have no knowledge of hunting safety or laws. Not to mention the group of people out there legally carrying sidearms every day that are some of the most unsafe people I have ever met....

It goes both ways man.....

Or......

"I know plenty of hunters and shotgunners as you call them. YES, alot of them are completely ignorant of most gun laws, except those that pertain to hunting."

Not to mention elections.

Those who carry tend to be quite cognizant of anti-gun legislation and whose behind it. THEY vote accordingly.

you can pick and choose quotes, but in doing so you completely ignore the point I was trying to make. ;)

Or was that your intention?

And what might your office be, sir, that calls to it represent the background and mental capacity of an entire national class of people.

Sounds more like your office might be in a Burge of New York City, where one could expect such hollier than thou attitude supported by a 3 year shooting experience.
