Another reason to have an AMD fore end on your AK *pics*

I was in my shop this afternoon rooting around looking for a scope base I had promised to a friend. At one point I had two halves of a two part Weaver base and a set of brand new low Weaver scope rings laying out along with other stuff. I was using one of my tactical lithium flashlights with a 1 inch diameter tube to look thru a parts bin. Standing in the corner was the Riddle of Steel SAR 1 AK with the AMD metal fore end.
A light came on!!(no pun intended) All the stuff just went together. Using the lower row of slotted holes in the AMD fore end I bolted the short Weaver base to the right side. Then I installed a quick disconnect Weaver scope ring on the lithium tactical light and clamped it on the Weaver base.
The flat side of the fore end is angled perfectly to direct the light to point of aim. I shot the combo just after dark tonight and the focus point of the light is dead on out as far as it does much good. I practiced quick illumination of targets followed by thier total destruction. yeee haaa
The ASP light has a rear end push button switch. The light is now posistioned so that when you grab the foreward pistol grip the rear push button is just above the index finger. I doubt if a remote switch could be much more comfortable.
And the best part is everything was just laying around the shop. I did not even have to drill a single hole.

:D :D

p.s. after looking at the pics of this setup online i am thinking that a mount under the fore end may be neater and less prone to damage. but since it involves drilling new holes in the for end i may keep this mount. maybe an under the barrel clamp type mount. hummm

isn't it nice when you run across spare parts you had no use for, and all of a sudden, the light comes on and walla it fit's!!!!

where did you get the gas port that has the metal grill with the holes in it?
I want one for my SAR-1 and i think it looks boss!

I am thinking about gettin all new furniture for my AK and i want to get he black Bulgarian plastic furniture and i want to know where is the best source for these?

Thanks

I went with K-VAR for my black plastic Bulgarian furniture, now mounted on my Bulgarian SLR-95. I just wasn't very happy with the SoupBowl Enterprises walnut set I had installed earlier, too clunky-looking. Here's what the SLR-95 looked like before I switched to the black plastic K-VAR stuff:

The Soupbowl furniture set was sold the day after I took receipt of the K-VAR synthetic stuff. As for the Bulgarian rifle, here's what a milled-receiver/hammer-forged barrel AK can do with the right ammo:

What happened to the pic? I want to know what kind of forging is the current barrell on my Romanian AK-47 SAR-1 rifle? I doubt that it is hammer forged, what could it be?
Where can i buy a hammer forged chrome line barrel for my AK?

Thank You,

Erfan

i just ordered me the Bulgarian Black synthetic Stock set with the vented gas port from http://www.k-varcorp.com and i cannot wait to get it!!!! It should make my AK look boss, Now all i have to do is make some threads on the end of my barrell for the screw on muzzle break ;)

Riddle, where did you get the muzzle break and how did you put it on? I am thinking about taping some threads on the outside of my barrell so i can get a screw on muzzle break.

The break is a Hungarian brake originaly designed for the short barreled AMD-65. The addition of an improrted muzzle brake on a post ban AK requires that you replace one of your other imported parts with a US made part. I traded my Romanian stock for a US made ACE stock and was able to legally install the imported brake.
As far as barrel threads, try http://www.dynasystems-ltd.com they have the set to thread your barrel in a fairly "fool proof" manner. I chose to use a set screw type adpt. To use one you need the exact diameter of your barrel. Choose the adpt. with the thread pattern you need. To use standard AK brakes choose a 14/1 left hand thread pattern. Screw the brake on the adpt. and be sure it is tight. Line the brake up so it is indexed properly with the barrel and tap the brake/adpt. onto the barrel with a nylon or rawhide mallet. Then dimple the barrel thru the set screw holes with a ball type dremel bit. Be sure not to damage the set screw threads. Then degrease the set screw and adpt. holes with denatured alcohol, varsol or carb cleaner. Apply blue Locktight to the treads and tighten screws.
