Another Generation Puts on the Uniform

I signed the consent form for my middle son to enlist in the Marine Corps earlier this evening.

After almost 26 years in the Army, I now have a future Marine in the family. I have mixed emotions, I'm proud and a little sad.

I had always hoped that my sons wouldn't have to serve, but I'm more then a little proud that he wanted to.

Hooah!

God Bless him and you sir, for consenting to allow him the greatest honor an American can have.

All fathers have mixed emotions about their sons joining the service. I think veterans are more prone to this. My dad would sign forms for me, so I enlisted as soon as I turned 18. But he realizes that it was the right decision for me.

Wish him well and provide as much free advice as possible.

A very proud moment for you and your son. Tell him thanks. For me and for the rest of those who will sleep safely under the blanket of freedom our service members past and present have provided.

Jeff - Ooh-Rah!

Our son is former USMC. Recon. He served in Panama and other places.

The Corps took in an occasionally mis-guided boy and turned him into a man.

Where will his boot be? The island or San Diego?

May he shoot straight, live long and wear the crossed rifles.

Jeff,

As a career US Army Warrant Officer (and former SFC), I am both glad and sad when I hear someone has joined the military. As you well know, the last eight years have done the military we love no favors at all. This is definitely NOT the Army we joined. Everytime I look around, I think of "Task Force Smith", and the hair on the back of my neck stands up. I wish your son luck with a hearty HOOAH! I only hope he has the opportunity to serve under a Commander in Chief he can be proud of.

Well Jeff, please pass on this word of wisdom to your son. It is the finest traditional boot camp greeting: "You'll be sorry!"

In all seriousness, he'll do well. Give him my best wishes and thanks for serving this nation. May God keep and protect him.

Jeff, my very best to you and your son. I hope he has the best of luck in the USMC. It is an experience he will treasure, whether he likes it or not!

I thank him for keeping the watch, and thank you for your fine example.

Jeff,

As a "former" Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine), I welcome your son to the Corps. Make sure he prepares for Boot Camp. He should take full advantage of the Poolee program run by the recruiters.

I still remember the two proudest moments I had in Boot Camp in San Diego. The first was singing the Marines Hymn on the steps of the chapel. The second and best was when my Senior Drill Instructor yelled, "Platoon 3062...DISMISSED!" All the former and current Marines know exactly what I'm talking about.

Tell your son I said thank you for helping to keep up a proud and long standing tradition.

Semper Fidelis,
Rob

Jeff: my very best to You and my heartfelt
thanks to your son. May he always walk with
honor and support and defend the Constitution

Jeff,

I welcome your son to the honorable profession of arms.
Wish him good luck for me.

"Outstanding, in the Marines!"-Full Metal Jacket. That line always sticks in my head. I know he'll hate boot camp and he'll think he wants to die, but when it's all over there is a pride nobody can take from him. Thank him for making the sacrifice and thank you for allowing him to serve.

Until the antis put a sign in their front yard that says they don't own guns, they are riding on the shirt-tail of the safety that we provide by owning them.

Cliff,
Mark wants to go into armor or mechanics. I'll know tonight when he finishes at MEPS.

I thought I'd print this thread and mail it to him about 3 or 4 weeks into boot camp, just to give him some encouragement.

Hooah! Tell him I said, "Suck it up, and drive on, Marine!" I'm willing to bet he'll hear that again (and again, and again, and again...). sundog, USAF 68-76, USA 76-94.
