Another 223

I`m thinking of getting a new 223 rifle and while looking online, I stumbled upon the Ruger American Rifle Compact. What are your thoughts on the Ruger for accuracy and reliablity?
I like a short rifle and was thinking about the Savage Hog Hunter but they seem hard to find. May use it for the odd coyote but mostly plinking at the range. Also wondering what else is out there in a short barrel bolt action 223 with a detachable mag.

There's the Mossberg MVP...

but I haven't been 100% happy with mine so far. I mean, everything works on it, nothing has broken or is unserviceable... it just comes so far from measuring up to my CZ527 that

Hey, wait a minute- have you looked into the CZ527's? They have detachable mags, are crazy-famous for accuracy, have a single-set trigger, rock solid ring mounting, mauser style claw extractor, several different variances in models, very good fit and finish, and very little to dislike.

If you're looking at a short .223 BA, make sure it's also light weight. A .223 doesn't need to be heavy to shoot well and it's much handier to carry around if it's both short and light.

I'm impressed with both the Ruger American and the Tikka T3 Lite.

A buddy got a Ruger American in .308 Win and I was very pleased with the handling, the trigger adjustment, and accuracy. It's a better rifle than the price would indicate.

I have a T3 Lite in .243 Win and it's very accurate. The only thing I've done to it is adjust the trigger, which is easy for anyone to do. Price is higher than the Ruger and I like it better, but most people would save the $200+ and get the American. The T3 comes with good scope rings and the receiver is grooved for them.

Both rifles are MOA or better as they come.

Mini-Mauser

Sorry, no experience with the Ruger, but have you considered the "Mini-Mauser". Currently billed as the Zastava Z85.

Walnut and steel, very tidy, and they seem to shoot well. Remington imported them for a while as a 799 (?) and there have been various other importers as well.. Steeper price than a Ruger American
