Another +1 for the Anti-gun

This was from my NRA letter for a neighboring county here in Va.....I swear No. Va and So. Va should be different states. This is just rediculous, where do these people come up with ideas like this that will help anything.
Prince William County Resolution Limiting Hunting!
Please Contact The Board of Supervisors Now!

On Tuesday, April 18, by a vote of 6-2 the Prince William County Board of Supervisors approved a ban on the use of buckshot within the county. If this prohibition is allowed to move forward, only shotguns loaded with slugs will be allowed for hunting in Prince William County.

This illogical and unnecessary action taken by a majority of the Board of Supervisors can only be viewed as a blatant anti-hunting and anti-gun attack on law-abiding gun owners and hunters.

If you have not done so already, please contact the Board members below and urge them to reconsider the outright ban of buckshot. In order to ensure that hunters are able to use the ammunition that is most appropriate for their hunting conditions, NRA advocates that both slugs and buckshot should be allowed in Prince William County.

The Board of Supervisors will meet again on Tuesday, April 25, to officially prohibit the use of buckshot in Prince William County. Please plan on attending the meeting, as citizens will be afforded the opportunity to speak for three minutes on any matter.

Please be sure to forward this information to your family, friends and fellow Second Amendment supporters!

I guess fish and game isn't state controlled in VA. I have never heard of local authorities being able to make decisions of this nature. Does this mean you can't have 00 in your home defense shotgun in VA?

Even for self defence? Because 480 grains of lovin' isn't going to feel great for a home intruder.

North Virginia does have that annoying connection to DC.

but if the lettering were to accidentally rub off the shell, who's to say WHAT kind of shot's in it? Surely good sense will prevail over such a boneheaded ban.

edited: just saw that this was hunting only. I feel a little better but still don't understand the point...

As far as home defense im not sure, i am gonna wait to get the follow up to see what the details are. yes it is annoying cause i grew up in north va and i sit here everyday watching it turn to hell compared to when i was growing up.

This is the odd thing. . . usually, I would think that counties would ban slugs. Where I hunt in South VA, slugs are banned (public land) and we have to use buckshot for hunting, due to the high density of hunters in the area.
OTOH, i'd feel much more comfortable taking a shot with a shotgun loaded with slugs than one loaded with buckshot (the place I hunt currently only allows buck). And speaking of only being able to use slugs I'd like to point out that they lifted a prohibition on slugs, so they are basically only changing from allowing buck and prohibiting slugs to allowing slugs and prohibiting buckshot.

According to the virginia briefing (washington post, granted, but still):

"The ordinance takes effect this hunting season. The board added wording allowing buckshot in protection of homes, crops and livestock"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/18/AR2006041801628_2.html

This implies that the board could restrict buckshot at a later date, which doesn't make me happy. But i *think* this law, in and of itself, is neither a danger to hunters nor our gun rights.

Doesn't make much sense does it. Kinda like Ted Kennedy holding up a .30-.30 and claiming that it'll penetrate armor plating.:D

Local laws? Hee-hee.

so much for 'Shall not be infringed' eh? Meanwhile isn't the only really need thing you need a local sheriff with good sense? This seems kinda excessive by me...

PW County supervisors are more gun-ignorant than anti-gun or anti-RKBA. There are sound safety arguments for both slugs and buckshot in a mixed semi-urban and downright rural county like PWC. MCB Quantico, which adjoins the county near my house, allows only buckshot. Fauquier county next door, IIRC, allows buck or ball. So it's a mixed bag around here.

Update from VCDL as of Wednesday 04/26:
Andrew Amerine did some more digging for information on Wednesday's
meeting on the buckshot issue in Prince William.
Although the meeting will be in the Board of Supervisors' room, the
meeting is not a Board of Supervisors meeting, but it is a meeting of
the Weapons Control Board. That is just as important as this Board's
recommendation to the BoS will be given considerable sway.

First I've even heard we have a weapons control board in PWC. I don't much like the sound of it...
