Ankle holster/Ankle bone pain

I just received my Alessi ankle holster. With me being right handed, I'm told to wear it on the inside of my left leg. But for some odd reason, I'm finding out that the weight of my steel snub nose is laying/rubbing against my ankle bone. It's causing some awful pains and blisters. What am I doing wrong?

With that said, I find the holster so much more comfortable when it's worn on the outside of my right ankle. Is this a common way of using the ankle holster?

I would assume that you should wear it where it is comfortable for you (assuming it is sufficiently concealed by your pants leg)

Me? I have yet to find an ankle holster that is comfortable at all.... and I have tried 4 different brands, lined, unlined, sheepskin padded etc.

Maybe try the Galco cop ankle band - To me it is very comfortable.

You can always cut off the tube part of a sock, and pull it on over the existing sock on your left leg. That way you can double up that part of your sock under the ankle holster, without having to wear two complete socks. Wow, I just used the word "Socks" a lot  :D - It works. It seems to create just enough extra padding for a more comfy ankle carry.

I do the sock thing with my alessi, otherwise the wool lining bothers my skin.

The reason you wear the gun on the inside opposite of your strong hand is that this conceals the gun much better, and it makes it easy to draw. It is also a more protected position if you are in a fight.

That said, you may want to test wearing it on the outside if that is really the only way you can do it...then see if a friend can see it print. also, make sure you practice drawing it alot. drawing from the ankle is tricky. practice is essential to do it fast and smoothly.

But what's causing the awful pains on my ankle bone? Could it be the steel frame itself? Should i wear it behind the ankle bone?

One of my favorite rigs is a S&W 642PD in an Uncle Mike's cordura ankle holster.
I lined the holster with sheepskin. I find it is the most concealable and accessible
on the inside of my left ankle (right-hander). It it is most comfortable when the
barrel rides just behind my ankle bone. The nice thing about the inexpensive
Uncle Mike's holster is that it has a "garter strap" that goes around your upper
calf and helps support/align the whole rig. it can get a little sore when the holster is
in the wrong place. When properly aligned, I have spent hours on my feet,
wearing it with no discomfort.

I had an Alessi ankle rig at one time, but found that the Kramer Ankle rig is THE best I've evr seen or worn. It is expensive by comparison, but worth it, in my opinion, should you NEED an ankle rig, and NEED it to be comfortable.
