And a couple thousand rounds later...

figured I'd post a status report of my SW 686-6.

Well several yrs, college, quite a few girlfiends (yea i spelled it correctly:D ), 4 cars and 3 duty stations later, I still have my ole roundhouse. Ive tried to sell it, really, i have. I had the money received but damn if that gun doesnt rest in my safe every night. Theres just something about it...

The thing is a beaut of modern firearms. Granted it doesnt have "low speed, high drag" (thats a common Marine Corps joke about those armchair commandos out there, oops, just offended the one reading this!:p ) or fancy engraving, hell, those are the factory grips! But the thing works! I'll hold my own in friendly comps at the ranges (i shoot DA b/c thats how it wa made) with those ACCs (armchair commandos. come on peps get w/ it!) and their $1500 1911s. One reason is that i was taught do the best w/ what i had. check. the other is countless hrs at the range and two cases of just .38 specs and several hundred rds of .357. (Yea no one was born w/ a gun in their crib except those ACCs...okay last one i promise!:D )

The only mod ive done to the gun is a trigger job around 500 rds. Smooth as silk and it works (best $50 investment ever!). It goes in a Fobus paddle holster at the range and IDPA matches or a vertical shoulder rig from Uncle Mikes when hunting and is reloaded (when i need speed) by HKS spdloaders.
Current ammo is the very hot CorBon 125gr .357 Mag (factory says 1400fps but i believe what i see and i see a hard hitting rnd)

So now im thinking about putting the wheelie under the knife...as in major cosmestic and mechanical changes. Should preserve my old faithful or give her face lift of the century (well october anyway:D)?

Sorry for the long post.

BTW, no malfuctions of any sort. been lucky, no hard primers have come my way.

Well.....

Sounds like she's just about how you like already. If I was in your shoes, I'd consider nothing more than nice wood grips, or engraving at the most. Why mess with a good thing.

buy another one!

plenty of nice S&Ws out there. Just picked up a gorgeous 4" M 19-3. Only question now is, how do I top that?
Don't worry...I'll think of something.

top it by getting the 696. I let one of those slip by for a dream ($425!). Oh well...
Nay on the engraving and i like rubber grips...especially the one that came on it...i think all the firing mold the grip to contour my hand! lol
