Anaconda

Yeas ago, I had a 4" model. It had a good
single action let off, but it had the worst
double action of any revolver I've ever owned. I sold mine. Right now I'm considering a Smith M629 4". Hope this
helps.

I have an Anaconda with an 8" barrel. I got it as a christmas gift a few years ago. I love it. The trigger is excellent in single action, and not too bad in double. I use this gun to hunt whitetails here in Pa. so a real good double action trigger pull is not a must. I would rank the Anaconda up around the top of the list! I also have a sweet spot for the Super Redhawk.

Yanus,

I don't have 44 Anacondas, but I do have 2. They are 10 foot anacondas. They get too big to be practical pets, but if you have a zoo, they would be one of the main attractions. The green variety are the world's largest snake! I have the yellow subspecies, which is similar, but only attains maximum lengths of around 15'. They are much more attractive though. They are difficult to tame. I wouldn't recommend a King Cobra either. HAD an aquaintance that died at the wrong end of one. Unfortuneately, he did not follow any safety rules.

The Anaconda - the perfect handgun to conceal in your Thunderwear:
"So is that a gun in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?"
"It's just my Anaconda, baby, and we're both happy to see you."

I, too have a six inch Anaconda, and it is one of the best guns in my battery. The trigger pull on this particular gun will stand with anything I have ever shot. Accuracy too is first rate. I would have to agree with Randy Garrett above that the finish on the Anaconda is outstanding, especially when compared to the S&W 629 I own. Functionally the 629 is the equal of the Anaconda, but in the aesthetics department the Anaconda is superior. I would also agree that the grip is an acquired taste, but it does allow the gun to roll up in your hand when firing heavy handloads.

Departing from the Police Positive-Colt Python genre, the lockwork of the Anaconda is a scaled up version of the Colt Trooper. Lift the sideplate and you'll see it looks and functions very much like a S&W inside. The advantage is that it is much easier for a gunsmith to diagnose and tune.
Ahhh, for the days when craftsmen were truely craftsmen.

I have had a 6" Anaconda since early 1991 and love it. I like the trigger/action on it better than that of my Python. I have scoped this with a Tasco which until this past weekend when the base broke, was providing very nice groups for me. That may be because I loaded up too hot a load. I tried some 300 gr XTP hoping to use as my elk load this year using 20 grains of H110. Prior to that I was using 240 gr XTP with 24 gr H110 as my deer load with nice results. Other than this slight issue, I wouldn't part with the gun.

My two cents worth! Good luck.
