Anaconda

A store in town has a new stainless Colt Anaconda. The price is $999.99. Is this reasonable? Never seen one in store. Anyone have experience with one? Good? Bad?

I wanted an Anaconda for several years, but couldn't find one to save my soul. I finally met someone at a range with one, and he was glad to show it off. I liked the way it fitted my hand, but it didn't seem very well finished, and both the single- and double-action trigger pulls were atrocious.

To be sure, that's only one Anaconda, not Anacondas in general.

I doubt I'll ever understand why Colt was so late to market with a .44 magnum.

Never had an Anaconda but looking at the Internet sites this seems to be about the going rate for new Anacondas of current production from the Custom Shop. The older ones seem to go from about $600 on up.

For Sale

I have a n Anaconda that I am very pleased with, but selling to sponsor my "outfitting" for Cowboy Action Shooting. It is an 8" model, SS, and 44 magnum. If you are use to the S&W trigger pull, it is definitely different. The DA has a shorter stroke than S&W. The single action is good and light. Accuracy is good and it handles heavy loads well (pretty heavy pistol). I bought it for hunting, then never took it out. Loaded some 300gr Lead bullets and they proved to be very accurate at 100 yards. I have my Anaconda at my local dealer under consignment. If it doesn't sell by the end of this deer season, I plan to take it as an "omen" and bring it home. Definitely lighter and quicker than a rifle in the brush!

Price aside, If the Anaconda is chambered in 44 Magnum you'll probably be OK.

If you're looking at one chambered in 45 Colt I'd measure the chamber throats and barrel groove diameter prior to purchasing. I've seen far too many of the 45 Colt Anaconda revolvers with chamber throats measuring in the .457-.458" diameter range having barrels at .452" or so. To say the least, this isn't a combination conducive to accuracy.

Tuning an Anaconda isn't much of a problem if you're a do it yourselfer. Pick up a copy of Kuhnhausen's book on the J, V, AA, and MM Colt frame revolvers.

My friend has a 90s anaconda and it has the sweetest action and trigger on any gun I've handled, bar none.
The crane, and timing seem a little delicate, though.

Saw 2 .44 anacondas at Target Masters West in Milpitas tonight. They were going for $939 each. Sweet looking revolvers!:D Looking for a 44 myself and will probably get the Ruger SRH cause it's a decent gun, it'll take the rough handling that it's destined to go through as a sporting gun and it won't burn too big a hole in my wallet. :D

Can someone tell me what the finishes on the older Anacondas
were like. I recently purchased one used and it is polished to
the point of appearing to be nickel plated. I'm wondering if
the previous owner took to it with the dremel, or if this is
typical.

I have an 8" SS Ported Model I bought 2 years ago for $750.00
The prices seem to going up on them.

Due to the fact the Anaconda basicly runs the same action as the King Cobra, using coil springs, instead of the leaf style of Python, the trigger is still smooth but of one the heavy side. Even after a spring kit.

I presently have a 4x32 Scope on mine and have been able to get right around 1" groups from rest at 100 yds.

I bought mine about 11 or 12 years ago. Cost around $450.00 or so if I remember correctly.
The single action is very light and crisp. The double action is nice also.
