Anaconda Question

I saw a 4-inch barrel, 45 colt anaconda for sale on gunsamerica. However, I can find no evidence Colt ever made this configuration. Was this a custom gun, or did Colt actually make a few of these (when?) I own the 6-inch bbl 45 colt version, and would love to have a carry piece with the shorter barrel, short of having one custom made...

Thank you.

According to Fjestad's cryptic notation: "(.44 Mag. only, new 1991, 6-11 also mfg. in .45LC - rare.)"

For what that's worth. I might see if I could put a deposit on the gun, and then verify the serial # with Colt to see if it was a factory 4" gun.

Colt did make a few 4 inch .45 Anacondas. They are hard to come by. The last one I saw on GA the seller never answered my email nor returned my call as I left a message on their phone service. I hope you have better luck as I have been looking for a mate to my 6 incher also.

A Voice of One

Thanks for the information. I plan to write Colt to cast a vote for making a limited run, much like S&W has been doing for the last couple of years. It probably won't do any good, but it can't cost them an arm and a leg, since they should already be tooled up. What's a colt fan to do?

Majic,

As they have totally dropped the Anaconda now you will probably be just wasting time.

Last I checked, it had resurfaced as a Custom Shop offering. Bring money. (Wholesale was ~$1000. )

I saw one not too long ago that had a letter from colt stating it was specialy built for an employee of colt...maybe all 4" ones were....

Just The Fax on the .45 Colt Anaconda

As promised, I did write Colt and ask them about the 45 Colt Anaconda with a 4-inch barrel. I thought some of you might be interested in their reply.

"Your fax to Colt has been forwarded to my attention.

Regarding a 4 inch model Anaconda in .45 long colt , these were in our product line in 1995.

At present, there were (sic) only 6 inch and 8 inch models in .44 magnum. Currently our production line for the Anaconda is closed for equipment refurbishment on the machinery. There are no plans for the .45 Long Colt chambering."

They then go on to suggest I look in various print or on-line publications as possible sources to find one. Since I provided the serial number on the 6-inch Anaconda .45 I own, they told me it was made in 1995 also.

This is the latest, directly from the horse's mouth. They did not provide information on how long the production line would be down for renovations.

Take care, all.

4" Anaconda, 45LC

I spied one of these at a gun show about 3 months ago. The dealer had had it for a number of years and we reducing the size of his collection. He showed me in his gun book that there were 6-11 of these made, but for the price, I wanted to do some checkin on it before I dropped the cash. As far as online investigation, really nothing except for what I've seen in this form. Nothing offical from Colt.

Steve, it strikes me that Colt may answer your question in a somewhat clearer fashion if you "Pony up" --sorry about the pun--for one of their factory letters. What are those now, $150 or so?
