Anaconda, keep it or pass?

Hey all,

The recent quest has been looking into purchasing a .44 Mag. (S&W 629, SuperRedhawk, RagingBull, etc.) I've been mostly a "autoloader" until now and have limited experience with large frame revolvers. My intent is to use the handgun for practice, home defense and hunting wild pig/boar. I’ve been looking into the properties of each, but have just come across a slightly used .44 6in barrel Colt Anaconda for $600. Opinions-suggestions on accuracy, etc.? Go with the Colt, or one of the other guns? All of the guns "feel" fine in my hand so far. However, I know Anacondas are discontinued and don’t want to squander a chance to pick one up. Cheers.

Get it. You will not regret it.

Not sure if you want to put a bunch of heavy hunting loads through it though.

Get the Colt now.
Get a Super Redhawk later to hunt with?

Personally, I'm not a big Anaconda fan. Pretty, but many I've seen needed work in the timing department. (But, hey, it's a Colt. What'd you expect? ;) )

The Anaconda is a primo piece. Opinions vary of course on which particular handgun is the 'best', but there is VERY little to fault with a Colt Anaconda. That price, at least in the Miami area, would be considered a fair enough price.

Before purchasing an Anaconda check the position of the rear sight. If it is cranked all the way to one side you might have found one of the many that were built with the barrel hole bored 2 degrees off in the frame. Part of the cutbacks at Colt included laying off the millrights. The table that the Anaconda frames were drilled on was 2 degrees off and many frames were destroyed, but many guns were shipped out with those frames.

Colt revo's are not my thing. (I don't care for the 'backwards' cylinder release). And I have to say that, although I'd never heard of the timing issue, I trust Tamara. The Colt's always felt pretty sturdy though. I guess in the end, like always, it's what you like. If it feels good....buy it.

the timing issue is a fact with some colts as Tamara said, I had one with timing problems and so did a friend, that being said there is a mystique around colts and alot of people still want them, so for that price try it and if ya don't like it just resell it...tom

ps...around here(seattle area) they will go for a bit more than that

Mine has been flawless so I lucked out - definitely have to remember that rear sight suggestion on any future purchases. As an owner of 3 Smiths and one Colt, I don't mind the different release.
