Anaconda 44 Magnum

This is close

I see you have no replies yet so I will offer this for what it is worth-I had a stainless Anaconda in 45 Colt, but not for long. It had problems with extraction and accuracy. And I thought the quality was a little rough. THe factors added up so I got rid of it. The 44 mag version might be another ballgame so others might know about that. But I would prefer the Smith and Wesson in 44 mag, as I had one of those and liked it. 6 inch stainless. Might like to have one of the 4 inchers instead and shoot specials out of it. Plust you could do a trigger job easier on the Smith and get more accessories for it. But the Colt might have a premium being a discountinued(?) item and being, of course, a COLT whenever trade in time comes.

hi
i picked up a used 8 inch 44 anaconda not to long ago.
it shoots very tight groups and i have had no trouble with it.
i have heard of first year or two 45 colt anacondas shooting real bad.

.44 Mag 4" Anaconda here; shoots great and a tack driver. The big snakes are built like tanks and can handle all but the topped out loads. I have no plans to ever part with mine.

I have one of the early .45 Colts and have never had a minutes problem with it. The throats are big, but that's natural for a Colt. I just size my bullets for the throats and it's quite accurate.
I just got a 4 inch Anaconda in .45 Colt, but haven't had the time to run it thru the wringer yet.

I've got a 6" .44 Anaconda that I bought new in Feb. 1995. I haven't shot it a whole lot...probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 rounds or less...but it seems to be every bit as accurate and strong as my 2 Smith .44's and 5 1/2" Ruger Redhawk. The only thing about it that I don't like is the rubber monogrip. Other than that, it's a great looking, great big gun, and I've got no plans to get rid of it.

No Longer Made

From what I can tell from the new Colt web site these guns are no longer made.

Colt Anaconda .44MAG STS

Hi,
I have a Colt Anaconda .44MAG STS bought in 1994. The revolver in its brushed stainless finish typical from Colt is beautiful.

On top of that, it shoots really well! This is the type of gun you want to shoot with reloaded ammunition - I use lead wadcutters with low recoil loads (a friend does it for me, sorry can't tell you bullet weight and amount of grains), but FYI, I am not a great shooter and still regularly group everything in the black circle of conventional precision targets at 25 meters.

Now, some say that these barrels are designed to shoot only and shoot best with FMJ or JSP bullets - personnaly, I switched from full power factory JSP's (IMI, Winchester, PMC, Remington, Federal) to handloads as described above - the immediate benefit was lower recoil, more pleasant for long shooting sessions and precision!
Now I get back to shooting my factory full loads for great recoil sensations and fun!

UNQUOTE

This is very true, neither Anacondas nor Python are available from Colt's.
Only the SAAs.
I have heard their machines tolerances had become so bad (this would be confirming some allegations made recently about Colt's quality issue) that they reomved the machines from the production line. That is the bad news.
The good news is that they may start production with new machines as of 2006/2007 :D

I thought one could get the stainless Pythons from the custom shop..
Course one never knows about Colt. I luv em and have a few, but the
bisness nowadays sometimes does mighty odd things..

My six inch 44 mag. Anaconda sports a Bushnell Holosight and is quite accurate. On top of that, the trigger breaks really crisp and clean. This gun launches a 336 grain gas checked WLN that drops from an LBT mold. It'll stay in my gunsafe until somebody inherits it.
