An Interesting Scout Platform

Kimber unveiled it's new 84M rifle at SHOT. As it's specifically made for the .308 and lighter calibers (not the .308-.375 H&H), it's far more compact than the alternatives out there. Weight is only 5lbs 10 oz! Great trigger. Full claw, Mauser extractor. Aluminum pillar bedded. This may turn out to be an outstanding platform for home built Scout rifles.

Other news: After a year of experimenting, Ashley Emerson has succeded in setting an IER scope on my Blaser .338 thru a previously toyed with, hitherto underused, method. The use of Weaver low mounts places the scope *exactly* at the height a scope should be, while leaving the conventional scope mount lugs undisturbed. Why did we do it? Why not?!

If we can develop bomb proof, pop up iron sights and combine these features with the Kimber, we may have an interesting animal.

They're a bit pricey compared to the competition: I'm told in the $800 range. But, then, you probably won't need to invest in the out of box trigger and action job.
