I attended a "Town Hall" meeting tonight sponored by the local NRA in Placerville, CA. This is in El Dorado county. A very pro gun area. The first speaker was our state assembly rep Rico Oller, who is running for a state senate seat in the fall elections. He has been, and is, an ardent supporter of the individual right to keep and bear arms, any arms. He spoke about how being in CA we are in the front line trenches in the battle for gun control, about how we should not give up or become complacent. He spoke with a conviction to keep fighting the battle in the state legislature.
There were also 5 candiates for county supervisor. All NRA members, 2 of them FFL's, 3 of them with a CCW. All commited to keeping our county in the fore front of the RKBA.
Before, during, and after the meeting, the petition to add an RKBA amendment to the state constitution on the november ballot was circulated. Probable around 200 signatures were aquired.
The hottest topic was assault weapons. While 2/3 of the people present were probably over 50, not one person thought that an AW was any less important to have than any other gun. No hunters deriding AW owners, or AW owners blaming hunters for "sacrificing" them. A lot of unity with everyone supporting any and all kinds of RKBA.
And lastly, I had the chance to speak with 2 reps from the NRA/ILA office in our state capitol about the demonstration we are trying to pull off on the day of the CA DOJ hearings about AW characteristics. They were very enthusiastic and said they would do everything they could to support us and help us out.
This meeting was just what the doctor ordered to lift my spirits and get back on the front lines again.
