any one interested in an inexpensive (nut not Cheap) should consider the Hungarian FEG PA63. It is a Walther PP clone and is chambered for the 9mm x 18mm Makarov cartridge.
It is smaller and neater than a Makarov and is more suitable for concealed carry.
It is currently available from J&G Sales for a hundred dollars.Spare magazines are Twenty dollars. I believe Century also carries these pistols, but I am not sure of their price. I have handled two specimens. Both worked well and were accurate.
Bear in mind that the 9mm Makarov is more powerfulthan the.380ACp but I don't think it is excessive.

I have tried one of those PA-63's and they are good quality and well made, though they can stand a little smoothing up by a qualified gunsmith. The term "Walther PP clone" is true to the extent that the design is similar, but not identical, and parts will not interchange with the Walther. The PA-63 firing pin block used to keep the gun from firing if the trigger is not pulled, is totally different from the PP's hammer block which serves the same purpose.

Jim is right. I used the term "PP clone" to convey the size, shape and feel of the pistol. I should have said that parts are not interchangable.

If you're interested in a 9x18 then get the original. You can get unissued Bulgarian military Makarovs for $148 shipped from www.jcarmory.com I highly recommend them.

Spare parts and accessories for Maks are easily found. Not so with the PA-63, mags are hard to come by and get expensive.

The Makarov has an extremely simple mechanism, only 27 parts. Even mechanically inept person can take it apart completely.

Check out www.makarov.com Lots of info about the PA-63 there.
