I just got this - I could NOT have said it any better myself!

An Experiment
TRY THIS ONCE
Enter Mexico illegally. Ignore immigration quotas, visas,

international law, and all that nonsense. Once there, demand that the local government provide free medical care for you and your entire family. Demand that the federal government provide retirement benefits for your elderly parents. Procreate abundantly. Demand that the Mexican school system provide schooling for all your children. Speak only English at home and in public and insist that your children do the same. Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican school system.

Demand bilingual nurses and doctors. Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc. Deflect any criticism of this irresponsible behavior with, "It is a cultural United States thing. You would not understand." Keep your American identity strong. Fly Old Glory from your rooftop; proudly display it in your front window and on your car bumper. Demand a local Mexican driver's license. Use your Mexican driver's license to apply for other legal rights and to legitimize your illegal presence in Mexico. Demand that the Mexican driver's license be acceptable documentation for voter's registration. Insist that local Mexican law enforcement teach English to all its officers. Insist that you should not have to pay taxes, because you are not a Mexican citizen and are only there "temporarily."

Good luck! You'll be demanding for the rest of time or soon be dead. It will never happen. It will not happen in Mexico or any other country in the world. The only place such things happen is right here... in the land of the gullible and the home of the naive.

If you agree, pass it on. If you don't, go ahead and try the above in Mexico
 
Actually, I do know someone who went illegally to Mexico and stayed there for months. If you are in Mexico, you will get exactly the same treatment (if not a little better, since police are less apt to abuse you for the fun of it) as other Mexicans do. And if you not only can't speak Spanish, but offer to teach other people english, you will find yourself with a manada of friends in short order.

It's true that you won't get great health care, schooling, or other government benefits, but that's not because you're American. You won't get that because it's Mexico, and most Mexicans don't get it either.
 
Actually, you'll find yourself in a Mexican prison and they aren't as nice as ours.

It's a game of "don't do as we do (Mexican government) but do as we tell you (to the American government).

Ol' Presidente Fox doesn't treat you (Americans) as he demands we treat Mexican's.

I would LIKE YOU TO EXPLAIN TO ME, how you enter Mexico 'ILLEGALLY' given we have an open border policy with them? That's why your 'friend' was always treated nicely. EVERYBODY thought he was American Gringo TOURISTA WITH MONEY...

HE MAY HAVE STAYED THERE ILLEGALLY, but I really doubt he entered by crossing the Rio Grande or squeezing through a fence in Kali, or hid in the back of the truck to fool Mexican border guards...

No, you will not end up in prison. Mexican law enforcement on that is notoriously lax, except for the southern troops that are funded by American aid to catch drug runners.

You enter Mexico illegally by not acquiring papers to do work and take up a residence there. You cannot stay for more than 3 months without a VISA, and even then you need a passport to stay for three months. It's illegal in Mexico, just like here, to work without permission.

Even if you don't have a VISA, I think they'll let you stay in Mexico as long as you want as long as your MasterCard or American Express charges continue to get approved.

The reason your 'friend' is not bothered is his American $$$, WITHOUT WHICH he would be unable to 'live illegally'.

I personally doubt that he would be able to just move down to Mexico to take a job, as good paying jobs FOR GRINGOS are scarce as HENS TEETH.

Actually this particular friend went with nothing. Washed car windows for a living. I've also met other americans doing menial labor in Mexico illegally.

Good paying jobs in Mexico are scarce period. My point is that they do not really care about having white people from the US in their country. It's not a hot-button issue.
 
Students head down to Mexico all the time and overstay their visas. In Costa Rica it has grown to be a problem. In Costa Rica, you can obtain free and fair (better than the VA) health care.

Mexico is easy to go down and be legal. Take a job as an English teacher in the schools and you can work, just as a Mexican engineer can come here and work.

Reality is that Mexico is not a good neighbor, but they haven't been good neighbors for a long, long time. If Canada was doing better than we, we'd all be flooding there to get jobs too. I'm just happy to live in a country where we have the opportunity we do.

If you want to be bitter about injustice, then you'll live a bitter life. I love that we are the envy of the world. If we could just export more 'rule-of-law' to other countries, we could then complain about how much petroleum they're using (Just like China). Just smile and enjoy living in the land of plenty!

Once again, your friend did NOT ENTER MEXICO ILLEGALLY. He took up RESIDENCE ILLEGALLY. HUGE DIFFERENCE!

And there are PLENTY of great paying jobs in Mexico. If you are an educated MEXICAN. Or are an EDUCATED AMERICAN that has a skill that a Mexican company needs.

Or are YOU SAYING THAT ALL TEN MILLION PEOPLE LIVING IN MEXICO CITY ARE HOMELESS BUMS???

As usual you try and twist reality to suit your needs.

Because they don't get all these benefits GIVEN TO THEM FOR FREE in their country, we should just sit back and GIVE THEM TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (law breakers) IN THIS COUNTRY?

I've got an idea. If they don't like how their country is being run, ie the massive poverty, lack of benefits, etc, why don't they DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT IN THEIR COUNTRY, instead of just running away from the problems and then expecting all the freebies once they wade across the Rio Grande?

You apparently think that just because a poor person has a child that I OR ANYONE ELSE should be FORCED TO PAY FOR IT'S CARE AND WELFARE? Even the federal government has withdrawn that benefit. Which has DROPPED the children born out of wedlock in the black community by about ninety percent in just the past FIVE YEARS. The truth is, WE are NOT responsible for the worlds problems and we should STOP TRYING TO HELP EVERYONE while ignoring the problems at home and impoverishing our citizens to help everyone else.

It's all about PERSONAL REPSPONSIBILITY FOR OUR OWN ACTIONS. You want to waste your time and money on these people fine. But before you do, consider what Oprah did. She took ONE MILLION DOLLARS of her own money and picked ten families and moved them out of the ghetto, bought each of them a home and got each of them good jobs. The results? In one year NINE OUT OF TEN (90%) of them were back living in the ghetto on welfare. Oprah threw up her hands and walked away.

Again, it's all about PERSONAL RESPONIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

I could apply that statement to this country. And we probably have a much better chance of changing our country that a poor person does changing a corrupt country.
 
special on the tv a few weeks ago

I would hope all you adventure seeking young and old alike get a chance to see a show I saw a few weeks ago. In a nut shell it told of the large number of foolish adventure seeking American folks whom thought it would be cool to wander into Mexico and mingle with the locals. If my memory serves me right the U.S. State Department is warning of the criminal activity that goes on just inside Mexico. Many American citizens have been kidnapped, beat, raped, held against will, and in some cases killed or not seen of again. So, I would suggest it might be a great place to steer clear of. With most poor countries in this world the police force is often one step worse than the worst criminals. A little power unchecked can be traced through history. One example is the Nazi SS troops....... The original post is very well put... I understood it and agree.....The following arguements of how it is so easy to do the same in Mexico is entertaining and a bit foolish too......... Just my opinion and worth .02 cents and not worth fighting over..... ;)
 
The very point I was making. It's only been in the past twenty years or so, introduction of "POLITICALLY CORRECT" into our vocabulary etc that this country has swerved off the 'straight and narrow' path it had been on for so long.

Yes, since the turn of the century, things have been SLOWLY going towards big brother HUGE GOVERNMENT cradle to grave socialism. Especially over the past forty years of liberal control of this country.

Now that the governmental pendulum is swinging back towards conservatism, the liberals in this country are besides themselves. All they know how to do is attact anything they disagree with. And then they wonder why 'all of a sudden' they are being attacked back? Because that's ALL they have left to fight with and therefore it's the only playing field left to them, ie being attacked back...

As this country returns to its conservative CHRISTIAN ROOTS - you know, those of the founding fathers - expect the liberals to go crazier and crazier trying to grab the reins of power again.
