Israelis Slay Disco Bomber

Israeli snipers yesterday blew away the hunted Hamas militant accused of masterminding a deadly disco bombing - as Prime Minister Ariel Sharon promised more targeted killings and Palestinians reacted with outrage.

Abed Rahman Hamad, who allegedly dispatched the suicide bomber who killed 22 people outside a Tel Aviv dance club in June, was shot twice after predawn prayers while standing on his roof in Qalqilya, a West Bank town on the Israeli border.

Troops fired on the 35-year-old - who rarely strayed far from home because he knew he was being tracked - from two-thirds of a mile away. Israel claimed responsibility. (Emphasis added.)

I didn't post the above article to discuss the moral or political ramifications, good or evil, of sniper assassinations, but to recognize the level of skill that is required to make such a shot.

Two-thirds of a mile is 1,161.6 yards!

I submit that this level of skill would be a worthy goal of any person who wishes to be a good shot with a rifle.

:)

Hmmm...

I bit of a discrepancy there... only 800 yds! Sheesh!

Well, nevertheless, 300 or 1100, it's still a good goal to reach for.

I don't claim any responsibility for clueless reporters...

Yes good shooting and good riddance. Anybody who would blow up and dance club & 22 people (and then be caught outside for prayers later- pretty hypocrital) I wouldn't mind seeing shot at 3 feet! But 800+ is pretty spectacular.

Wasn't there a confirmed 1,800 meter one shot kill by a Army SF sniper during Desert Storm? I remember a loooong post about that shot about 5 or 6 years ago on the old Shooters forum.
