what i am referring to are the old style, hand turned gatling guns.

the law says we can have self loading weapons (except pistols)

however, just judging from videos i've seen of them you have to manually turn it to load each barrel.

Anyone think the cops would fall for it?
I doubt it but an interesting idea.

Interesting question. In the US one can own an original Gatling with no restrictions. They are not considered as semi or full auto guns. If an individual replicates a Gatling or similar crank type gun, the Govt must approve it.

I once encountered a gent who built a Gatling. He requested a waiver from ATF and was granted said same with the provision that it not fire any commercial ammunition. He simply made a wildcat cartridge of his own design and all was approved with no other restrictions.

The very early Gatling Guns were/are considered muzzleloaders since they don't use a cartridge but rather a steel tube into which is loaded loose powder, bullet and a percussion cap seated on a nipple. In the US these are exempt from all ATF rules.
