It seems to be pretty much taken for granted on this board (by myself included) that "the Second takes care of the First." Civil liberties are supposed to be safer when there is widespread civilian gun ownership.
However, that can't always be the case. Afganistan has more guns per person than any other country, yet I heard they had massive censorship. In Yemen you can buy grenades and machine guns in the marketplace, and almost all men carry weapons, but I was told conversion to Christianity is punishable by death. Israel has fewer civil liberties than us, doesn't it?
Any thoughts on this important issue? I would hate to have this flung in my face in a debate.
