On Thursday, my buddy asked me to install a sling mount on his M-Forgery (AR-15 w/short 16" bbl & collasping stock). He also wanted the front swivel removed as it got in the way of his light/laser unit.
Loosened the nut holding the stock on and "sproing!" went the spring that provides tension for the take down. Couldn't find the spring. Continued removing the stock when a second missle was launched. This was the spring & plunger that retains the buffer in the stock. Boy, it's been at least four years since I've last worked on an AR and it shows. Thankfully there are spares on hand. I also noted that the original assembler (it was a kit) the stock didn't apply any grease and you could see some wear on the threads. Got it all back together.
Next step was to drill out the rivet that held the front swivel. Drilled it partially and then punched out the rivet. Done.
It's been a good morning.
