I was thinking about that too. Those Hardballers are kinda 'spensive for such a "not choice" firearm. They are made in Chino Calif. and from what I heard are doing alright cosidering.

They are total POS, I cannot believe that this company is still in business (bought out by Galina industries)- they are at the bottom of the barrel IMO, and they are not that cheap as far as price is concerned.

Yet still people buy them.. What can possibly be the motivation behind such a poor purchase?
Its no secret that these are shoddy weapons....

AMT was bought out late last year and moved to Sturgis SD following the death of company founder Harry Sanford.

Here's the odd part: the two new owners have no experience in firearms manufacturing or even industry. One was a doctor who was considering early retirement and the other was (I think) a salesman. They both liked firearms and bought the company and moved it from Irwindale CA to SD.

To say they've had some problems would be a major understatement . . .

There are two items in their favor:

1. They will fix or replace any gun sent back to the factory, even those made at the previous factory (and some of those really do suck).

2. Even though the business is on the knife edge financially, they've made substantial contributions to RKBA causes in the high plains area. As y'all probably know, folks like Ted Turner and Hollywood types are buying huge tracts of land in the West, and immediately they try to ban hunting and recreational shooting - even trying to ban such activities on adjacent property.

Anyway, the old AMT URL is dead, here's their new one if you want to return something: http://www.galenaindustries.com/

If you are interested in land use politics out West, I kinda like the Sierra Times (also good for just plain ol' ****kicking and troublemaking for the Clintonistas, plus strong RKBA content)
http://www.sierratimes.com

And they have a new publication, the Dixie Times:
http://www.dixietimes.com

My fellow Southerners will hopefully check this out.

That should give you folks something to read over the long weekend!

I too have heard a lot of negatives about AMT but the one AMT piece I own works great - its my favorite carry piece.
I've got one of the Single Action Backup .380's and the functioning is flawless with hardball or Hydra-Shocks.

I really like this gun, maybe I just got lucky.

I'd have to say that their "oddball" calibers keep them in business. Lat's say you are taking your Ruger 10/22RBM out for the afternoon. Wouldn't it just make sense to carry an AMT AutoMag II as your sidearm and have some universiality in your ammo?

I once fell victim to the AMT45backup. I wanted a cheap gun to take on trips, that if it got stolen, I wouldn't be out an HK or Kahr or anything like that. It sucked. No, actually, it REALLY sucked. The 25 pound trigger pull ALONE was enough to make me kick myself nightly for ever wasting my money. It jammed forward, and wouldn't retract, so I took it to the gunshop that sold it to me. They sent it to AMT, and I waited, and waited, and waited... I asked my friends at the gunshop to call AMT. They did. AMT's reply? It'll be ready when UPS drops it off at your door!

The gunshop told me that AMT is WELL known for being BUTTHEADS when you return stuff.

I traded (sorry to whomever purchased it) for a Taurus 85ultralight .38. LOVE IT! What a move. Try sending something defective back to Taurus for a fix... it takes less than a week, and they call later to apologize and make sure you're satisfied with your gun!!!!
