I believe AMT made one of the smallest 45acp guns. Are they still in business? I believe their little 45 was the "Backup". Were they worht a darn?

Back-Ups

I like the .380, if you can get past the trigger pull. Long and heavy. But if used as advertised ie, back up they fit the bill.

The last I heard, Galena had gone into receivership. Too bad since I have one of the last DAO .380 Backups that came out of their (new) Sturgis, SD plant. If it's any example of their workmanship, they should have been floating belly-up at the top of the tank years ago.

They sort of did as the original Arcadia Machine and Tooling (AMT). They just kept on bringing it back to life like Frankenstein's monster.

They had rigid quality control standards

Occasionally one would get out of the factory in actual functioning condition. This was rare as any gun found not to jam with regularity was sent back through the line until they got it wrong.

I bought a 380 backup in the '80's because the gunshop owner alloed me to fire several magazines through it into his sand pit. Functioned flawlessly but that was the last time it got through an entire magazine without choking on its guts. At one point the magazine came undone at the seam and had to be re spot welded. It was really interesting to fire a shot and watch the next round up do a flip out the top of the ejection port.

I was 100% reliable as a single shot.
