AMT/Galena Javalina longslide 10mm 1911

I know AMT has a bad rep for their 1911s in general but I`ve always wanted an AMT 7" longslide (ever since the Terminator :D ) and in 10mm it should develop some nifty velocity. I wouldn`t really expect it to be 100% out of the box but I`d like to know if they can be made to work well without replacing the entire gun with Wilson,Kings, etc. parts. Marcus

Marcus, I'm perhaps the only person here who can claim this, but when the AMT Longslide 10mm first came out, I bought one, and it worked perfectly. Fit and finish were not impressive (a universal feature of AMT guns) but the thing worked flawlessly with factory ammo and with handloads. I sold it about five years ago for reasons I can't recall now but that must have seemed good at the time. I wish I had it back.

As a counterpoint, I should add that my brother bought an AMT Longslide .45 and it was unreliable with any ammo. Go figure.

Since Galena has bought AMT things are supposed to have gotten better.
IF you get one cheap and expect to need to make some changes then you'll probably be OK with it.
However, there is always the Glock 20 with the extended barrel option and 18rds in it. I love mine!

Marcus, in my dealings with AMT they told me that they would not do warranty work on non-Galena guns, making any Javelina you get an "orphan" so far as the factory ever fixing its problems. The only longslide they have on their webpage is in .45 ACP, so I guess they're not making the .400 Cor-Bon anymore.

Bought a Javalina not long after they came out. Unlike David Roberson's experience, mine was more like his brother's. Numerous failures to feed. Later bought the Hardballer Longslide (.45ACP) with same results.

Now use the Javalina for parts for my Springfield Omega 10mm and am planning to convert the frame to a single shot .22-250. Not sure what I want to do with the Hardballer. Replaced original barrel with a cheapo barrel tht actually functions better but is not as accurate. I'm thinking of just selling it off.
