AMT automag III

Never heard of it, but if it is related to the AMT backups, I'd be very cautious because those are a POS in my opinion. They will have to have come a long way since the AMT backups to even be marginally good

AMT generally puts out a very disappointing product.

I've used many of their firearms, and with 1 exception, a .22 Lightning, they simply were not worth the price or the aggravation.

Had a .380 AMT Backup for a number of years. Big mistake. It finally ended up sold to a man I knew in California, who used it as part of his expert witness testimony in a lawsuit.

It ended up encased in a block of lucite, with the caption "In case of emergency, throw this and get a REAL gun."

UT83,

Yes I have shot more than one on many occasions. They did not belong to me, but a couple of my friends who also hated them. Neither kept them very long.

They had what felt like a 20 pound trigger pull, and was less accurate than many derringers I had shot, they also jammed too much for me. I can honestly say I did not like anything about them except the compact size they offered.

I can't speak for the weapon mentioned above ( Thanks Zundfolge for the picture) but I would never buy one of the backups for myself.

These are just my opinions (and a couple of my buddies) I'm sure many people like them, I just think there are much better weapons to be had.

Allright all of you AMT haters...Just kidding.

I have never owned one. I have put many rounds through a .380 dao back up an old girl friend had and it was a surpsingly nice gun with a trigger like my cz 83. It grouped fairly well for a dao
gun with no sights. Maybe it was a fluke and AMT made a good one. LOL

I shot an Auto mag 2 , 22 mag pistol. It was alright..nothing to write home ( or here) about.

Shoot well

I also used to own a AMT Backup . Just my opion but
it has to be one of the worst reliable small defense guns around.
It Jammed nearly once every 4 rounds . i even took it to a gun smith , he couldnt help the gun . i even tried Stinger 22's in it
which are very high velocity 22's . Still failed. I wouldnt reccomened AMT's

AMT AutoMAG III in .30 carbine

I own one, bought it used. I would buy it again, for the purposes I bought it: fun, and to make people at the indoor range look at me funny when I get it out and shoot it. Trigger is a bit mushy, lots of takeup, but I got used to it. Sites are adjustable, but I had trouble getting shots close to the center of a B27 silhouette target, so I filed them until they were. Not much to file.

It will keep rounds well within the 9-ring of said B27 target at 25 yards. That would be 7" wide by 11" or so tall. It may be better, but I did not keep the target, I was just trying to get the group centered. I should try again, just for accuracy. Just for reference, I can keep all shots from my .38 target revolver inside the 10-ring at 25 yards.

Ran a couple of magazines of surplus .30 ammo through my uncle's Thanksgiving weekend - initial impressions were that the grips were too wide (front to back) for good control (I have huge palms and relatively short fingers); very light, crisp trigger; moderate recoil; good accuracy.

I had no malfs of any kind, but the thing is too clumbsy feeling for me to thing it would be good for much more than plinking.

Great muzzle flash, though!

My $.02 USD
