Anyone have any thoughts on these? I know that generally AMT does not have the greatest rep, but a friend of mine carries one for backup and likes it a lot.

Accuracy?
Reliability?
Parts availability, since I understand they don't make these anymore?

Thanks...

Bob

I don't know about parts availability, although I'm sure Gun Parts Corporation in West Hurley,NY would have parts for a number of discontinued firearms.MY dad has owned one for years and did a fair amount of shooting,no problem with ball or hollowpoints and no malfunctions in his AMT backup.Accuracy for a small backup pistol was good enough to qualify at the Police range.THeir nice pistols for the money imho.

Youll hear love it or hate it. Ive shot 2 backups..a range 45 and a friends 380. The 45 has some miles on it and shot fairly well, but hated the trigger. Hard, long and after alot of rounds it literally hurt to pull anymore. The 380 was one of the sweetest shooters around. It may have had work done to it, at least it wouldnt surprise me. The trigger was light and smooth. Both guns shot accurately and didnt miss a hickup...I'd carry the 380 that I shot.
I may have gotten lucky, alot of people have worse luck with them. Mostly reliability issues from what I hear.
Shoot well

A buddy of mine has a amt 380 that he can't give away. Awful trigger, hurts to shoot  This is after having it ported and a trigger job done to it. Terrible combination, IMHO!

Thanks to all for the input. I decided against the used AMT Backup which was for sale here locally and instead went for an NAA mini-revolver in .22 mag with .22 lr interchangeable cylinder.

I appreciate your responses!
