Ammunition Collectors

I need some advice from any vintage ammunition collectors that may be reading this.

The other day I picked up a light weight take down model Savage 99 in 250-3000 cailber.
Along with the rifle I also aquired several full boxes of ammunition.

I have four boxes of Western Super X 100 gr Silvertips, the boxes are yellow with red and blue writing, they also have the child warning on the front of the box.

I also have one full box of Remington 100 gr soft point ammo, the box is green with a large white R and a red bar through the R that has Remington spelled out in it.
The box also has a child warning on the front.

I don't believe the ammo and boxes is exceptionaly old, maybe back in the 70's.

Can anyone give me any information about any collectible value in the full boxes of ammo?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Best Regards

The condition of the box is the driver. It's not old or rare, so I'd pay $10-$20 a box if full twenty rounds.

Thanks for the reply.

I also would gladly pay $10-$20 a box for a full twenty round box of ammo seeing that dealer cost on new ammo is $26.05 a box of twenty plus shipping cost.

As for the condition of the boxes they are in excellent shape.

If you an post some clear pictures, that would be good.

I'm thinking late 1950s through the 1960s for the Winchester.

The other, not sure.

The $10 to $20 a box is low.

Factory ammo in that caliber is not too common, but it is not really rare or highly collectible. You would be lucky to get $30-40 a box. Probably best to shoot it and keep the brass.

Mike, here's one picture.
I have another I can post also, basically the same picture but the flash from the camera reflected off the box.
Thanks for your help with this.

the boxes look good, is the ammo bright and clean or dull-ish? Collectors are picky...

not the most common caliber, but not super rare. Packaging is from the 70s, or earlier, 60s possible. I think 50's vintage was different boxes. I know for sure the Remington package was like that in the 70s, I bought and used it then.

I'm sure its worth a little more than new factory ammo, to the right person. The tough part is finding the right person.:D
Good Luck!

44 AMP,
Thanks for the info.
Yes, the ammo is good and clean.

Right now I can't find any distributors that have any factory ammo or brass.
So if the ammo is not worth much over new ammo price I may just shoot it and save the brass.

I also kind of thought the ammo was from around the 70's time period, especially the box of Remington ammo.

Thanks again for your help with this.

I'm pretty sure you're talking 1950s to 1960s with those boxes.

They are in very nice shape, and that alone would give them some collector value and interest.

I am pretty sure that the earlier Silvertip boxes had that noted in a blue band at the bottom of the box, and the later style (yours) came out in the middle 1960s.

Does either box have a zip code on it?

Zip codes didn't come into use until about 1963, and didn't become required (and then only on second and third class bulk mail) until 1967, but after that date they rapidly appeared on just about everything with an address.

Thanks for your help with this.
There's no zip codes on any of the boxes.

Maybe I need to just set on this ammo awhile, I have three new boxes of ammo I can shoot.
I also have a back order on some brass, maybe I'll get lucky and it will come in before long.
