Ammuninition: Private labels vs Name Brands

With stocks flying out the door as quickly as they seem to be these days, I was at the local buying a few rounds. They were out of the Remington .40 S&W 180 that I usually shoot, but they had Winchester. I've shot these products for over 50 years; so feel OK about buying the brands. This time, though, the clerk offered me a store brand load for about 40-45% less than the name brands. I bought a 50 round box to see if I could see any difference but haven't shot them yet.

I know there are a lot of hand loaders out there who only shoot their own loads. I'm not asking about hand loading. What I want to know is what your experience has been if you've shot any of these private label loads.

TIA

I'm not sure what you mean by private, but I've good luck with most brands of 40, the only one I didn't have good luck with is Aguila.

My only reply to this is that generally, you get what you pay for. I have bought "local" rds. from a gun store were I live in TEXAS. I can say that I would rather pay the extra 2 bucks for some Winchester in 9mm and 45. But I know some guns are picky eaters. Maybe yours is not.

Go shoot the box you bought.

If it works out, go buy more.

If it doesn't, don't buy more.

For 40% off, I'd sure give it a try.

Hey! I live in Texas, too. I bought my rounds at Academy. The brand in question is Monarch. The guy behind the counter told me that they were a store brand.

Well I would be afraid that, when all the good inexpensive ammo is bought up off the shelves, the cheap stuff conspiciously left unsold, is maybe ****!
