Ammo storage ideas

I am looking for alternatives for storing my ammunition. Right now I store it in typical green metal army issued ammunition boxes.

I am thinking about something a little more harmless looking, but still does the job. I was wondering about the Igloo ice chests. They are solid and fairly waterproof - providing you close the plug at the bottom.

I'm not looking to fool the police (as though an officer wouldn't look in a chest because he thought there were only baloney sandwiches in there). I'm more or less just looking to lower my profile when moving or if I have people in the house.

Any thoughts or comments on the ice chest? Guess I could keep a couple of beers in there as well if the SHTF. Ha.

Get those tool totes from a hardware store. They are made of plastic and are usually yellow and black, or black. You can get ones that are just big enough to fit a few military ammo cans inside of. The military cans are great, and good protection, but as you want to keep them out of sight, that's the best of both worlds. Stick the cans in the totes.

Pokemon lunch box. Seriously, I like small soft-sided coolers for day trips out of the house. The insulation helps with temp swings, boxes don't get too beat up and they come in innocent colors (but I still like black, oh well).

Why do you feel you need to hide your ammo?
It's legal, isn't it?
Are you afraid Rosie will see you loading up to go to the range?

Bottom Gun, I have several neighbors that I would really prefer NOT know I have any firearms in my house. When I am going to the range or else where to shoot I make sure that I load the ammo cans in the Suburban when they are not about. Why advertise to scrotes? Unless you are baiting. :) In the basement there a lotta USGI ammo cans, some really contain ammo, well, ok a lot contain ammo, but others have tools in 'em, at least that is what is stenciled on the cans.

I just like the idea of being anonymous. Its good practice, especially if you live in an urban area. Too many busy bodies.

[Ah, to draw the line between discreet and paranoid... Hmmm....]

Of course I wouldn't be paranoid if everyone wasn't out to get me. Ha.

I wouldn't hide either...I'm notorious for carrying my guns to and from the car....wearing my 'Firearms' clothing and so on....let er rip!

Yeah - I cannot hide it - or will not. My wife begs me to be more discreet, but alas I will not slink around. If somebody doesn't like it - FCK THEM!
