Ammo recommendations

damage

New member
I used to use american ammunition at the range because I used to get it at five dollars a box now I can't get it anymore so I am looking for another type of practice ammo, the ones I am looking at are

Wolf 9mm copper coats
Israeli military industries
Federal ammo

They are all 115gr 9mm my question is has anyone used them and what were your experiances both good and bad...especially the bad and if you have reccomendations i'll take those too I use car-bon +p HP for personal defense so I don't need any advice on a defense load

THanks

I've always had good luck with both Federal American Eagle and Winchester USA in 115 gr. FMJ for practice work. Expect to pay around $7, though.

Can't recommend American Eagle -- huge muzzle flash. PMP, UMC -- weak loads, PMP emitted sparkes from the muzzle. PMC, also large flash. 3D, hard primers, not very consistent.

I'd go with Fiocchi or S&B ball. Fairly accurate, not much flash.

Some of the IMI pistol ammo has had significant over-pressure problems of late, particularly in .45 ACP.

The S&B from Natchez is a very good choice, as is the Geco 124 FMJ from Natchez.

I have also had fine results with Win USA, Federal A/E and CCI Blazer as well.

Count me in the S&B promoter's camp. GOOD ammo.

I shoot IDPA pretty regularly, and since I don't have a reload setup (yet), S&B is what I shoot. And I work at a gun shop, so I pretty much have my pick of ammo.

I have had good results with Wolf. Shoots well in my gun. Others don't like it, (mostly saying its too dirty). I don't find it excessively dirty, but I clean every 100 rounds or so.

For practice I like the UMC yellowbox 115gr stuff.. it prints the same in my hi power as 115gr silvertips

If you were happy with American Ammunition, everything else will seem like premium ammo. I would get what's cheapest and enjoy.

Oh please please stop the american bashing you know I never heard a bad thing about it until I couldn't get it any more, and now i hear all these horror stories about it you know I never had a problem with the 3000 rounds i used =) guess im just lucky

thanks alot guys i ordered a box of wolf, federal, and imi, and SB I checked their 9mm rating which is a whopping 1200 which is hot for practice ammo (considering my car-bons are rated 1350) so ill let ya'll know what I think any predictions

If it works for you, go with it by all means. However, my personal experience with it has been an extremely dirty ammo assembled with poor quality control. I had cases that were supposed to be new that were deformed and cracked before I even fired them. I started a thread about them a while back and most people recommended throwing away any that had not been fired yet. But as I said, if it works for you, go with it. :)
